Slow internet?

Just got my axim X50v and the internet it really slow, like over 5 mins to load a single page, is there something that is set up wrong or a way to decrese what is loaded on each page to speed things up?

Sorry if this sounds obvious, but are you talking about internet via Wi-Fi or just when your axim is in the cradle accessing the net through your computers conection. Because my conection speed is fine when I am using Wi-Fi but incredably slow when it's in the cradle.

5min is really slow. check your wireless connection, is the signal level poor? most pages should render under a min. it all depends on the web site you are visiting. anyways, web surfing on the PDA is just not pleasant. it's way too slow compared to the desktop. 624mhz xscale cpu just doesn't have the power to render the page quickly. If a page contains lots of tables/jscript/jpeg/css, it's going to take minutes not seconds to render the page.

Wow, that hasn't been my experience at all. I access the internet constantly with my x50v, a variety of different sites, and the page loading is very fast. I've never had it take over a minute for any website so far, no matter how intensive.

I switched over to Netfront v3.1 browser as I found the in-built PocketIW way too slow, big difference in rendering speed with Netfront.... roll on v3.2 with *proper* VGA support! :)

I agree. The web surfing on my X50v is very fast (for a PPC). All of my pages load in under 20 seconds. I have wireless at home and at work. At work, it is a little slower on my Axim, but also slower on my computer.

Above is a link to a mobile speed test. If you are having problems with all pages, I would check your wireless settings, change ISP or check in to getting a better router.

Have you disabled PowerSave mode in the Dell WLan utility? This could be causing the slowdown.

Get this, i just got off the phone with dell service and they have told me that there is conflict between my router (D-link DI-514) and the axim which causes it to go very slow? anyone heard this?

No I have not heard this, but I would not say that it is possible that it could be causing your slow speeds. Your router is also only 802.11B. I do not think it would be a fair judgment to compare to other ppl's routers that are 802.11G. I know that the Axim's speed will not get much higher then 2 or 3 mbps, but higher speeds on your router will produce high speeds on your Axim.

Maybe you can try to find a free hot spot in your City to see how your speed is then. If you get faster speeds, then it is the router. If not, then it is the Axim. Good luck.

I truly doubt there is any inherent conflict between the Axim and D-Link. It's a typical response when someone has a complaint similar to yours - blame the other manufacturer's equipment. You might have issues with PowerSave (these are not part of the wireless standards and thus can be implemented in different ways or not at all). Follow Wooch's advice and disable it on the Axim.

You might also check the D-link site for firmware upgrades.

I have tried other routers and they are much much faster, at almost the speed of my labtop - its definatly a router issue, any suggestions? i might just buy a new one to see if that fix's it.
