Synching Global Contact List

I'm interested in setting up a global contact list. I would like it so that personal info stays on personal computers and the the global contact list is synched to a number of people. Those people can change it and the changes should be reflected in the global contact list. What is the best way to set this up. I was thinking of having different profiles but when synching the contacts it replaces personal contacts with global contacts or vice versa. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
