Viewing Windows Media Files in IE?

When surfing the internet how can you view videos on web sites? I click on the link and it just show a bunch of ASCII code.

guys, this happend to me twiice or thrice but after that it came up with a pop up to save the file and promplt played it after download completed. problem is i dont know what i did to make it do that.
