Sorry ... 'Beginner' questions!

Hi there! My first posting so ... HELLO EVERYBODY!!!
I'm decided to update my PDA from an ancient Cassiopeia (VERY ancient!), and have choosen Axim X50v which will order in the next days to Dell .
Would like to know if someone could answer the following 'beginner' questions ...
a) As I work in a local magazine as an advertisement sales agent, I visit sometimes small companies which computer systems are old as my Cassiopeia ;-) and don't have internet connection, ... Will I be able to connect my Axim X50v to their USB port to transfer files to my PDA and bring it to the office? Is this wire included in the X50v carton or I have to buy additional? In case this option is not available in this PDA ... is there any other possibility via cards or others to do it?
b) I have read (and I'm so worried about that ...) about the serious problems with craddle and system crashes from other users ... Do you recommend to order another system sync cable from Dell to use with my PC instead of the craddle? Or is it better to use an USB Hub to protect my mobo?
Thanks in advance (sorry for my bad english) and VERY BEST REGARDS FROM OUR (AND YOUR!) SUNNY SPAIN

Ton;

The Ax doesn't have the facility to easily transfer from PC via USB most people move files using memory keys or if you wnat to use the AX to read the files I usually usea Jump Drive Trio, insert the SD card and attach it to the usb port copy the the files and insert it back in the AX. Any card reader will do this for you but I use a Trio for convenience.

Hope this helps.

ps. buy the largest SD card your budget will allow - Kingston or Lexar are my favourites, no problems very reliable.

Oh I forgot, if you are transfering files Pocket Office doesn't read unconverted files so PlanMaker (for excel etc) and TextMaker (for word) are really good. I've been using them for about a month on my X50 and won't be going back to MS in a hurry.

Welcome to Aximsite!

As long as the computers have USB, you should be able to transfer files to your X50. There are 2 ways:

1. If ActiveSync is installed on the computers, you can connect your Axim using a "Guest" partnership and copy the files over directly. Using ActiveSync would also require that you have a cradle or sync cable.

2. Use a card reader to copy the files over to a CF or SD card, then put those cards into your Axim to view.

Regarding the cradle and MOBO problem: it's hard to say if the problems were caused by a fluke or a defect. There does appear to be a definitive answer right now, but I have not heard of any recent reports. It's possible to use a USB hub, but these often do not work as well. BTW, you probably will not need to purchase a cradle separately; my X50 shipped with one and I had the option of getting the sync cable as well. Check with Dell's website to be sure.

Just remember......(and I'm not discounting the problems reported)......that you will hear many more complaints than you will praise in these Forums. 'tis the nature of the beast.

Think how many Axims are sold as compared to the number of complaints.
