I use fairuse to rip and compress to .xvid and use whatever settings the program recommends for the given file size. It's a sweet program I did matrix III in 4 hours last night at 700MB and the picture and sound through betaplayer is superb. I've gone as low as 250MB for full lenght movies and still got great results.

I have been trying to use FairUse a number of times now and I can never get the program to encode any movie that I put in. The warning usually says "Cannot create a temp file". I wish it came with a users guide to help me along. Would you have any pointers for me to successfully get this done.
Thank You
John

Look for a thread here called fairuse user guide, use the search function. DStutz posted a link to a really easy to follow user guide.

There's another thread here with a link to the developers forum. fairuse .xvid forum should get you there with Search.

I actually ask because I presently have a tungsten T and am considering upgrading to 50v, and was wondering how much more capable the dell was in terms of video.
Can the axim handle typical files that are downloadable in size?
Also, is it capable of playing files that have been encoded in it's native resolution? (640x480 i think)
Just trying to get a general idea of how much the hardware has improved....any information would be helpful.

The X50V has the best video performance out of any PPC out.

I'll put it this way. The .xvid files I play on my X50v play fullscreen in windows media player on my laptop. That's gotta tell you something pocketrocket.

Well I don't know from numbers but the output is awesome! I forgot to add the file size was 700MB. That sounds large but it still leaves room for 5 or 6 CDs on a 1GB card and the X50v is a dual slot device.

If you're going for larger encodes like this, you might want to try an ouput resolution that's 640 wide rather then 624. That should keep your unit from doing any scaling which can introduce additional artifacts. Video is amazing on x50v though, that's for sure. :approve:
That's true but I'm lazy. Betaplayer's zoom settings get me as close to full screen as I'd like and adjusting the contrast and brightness diminishes most artifacts. It's not like this is my primary video device. My laptop handles that function. ;)

I get nothing but erros and crashes when I use Fairplay. Which is too bad because it uses my Dual AMD's second CPU very nicely. It could in Theory rip a movie in about 2.2 Hours if it would stop dying on me.
Pocket DVD Studio is the only program I have had use that is very reliable, but whatever. Use what works best for you.
