Hi / Psion Convert

Hi All,

I just joined the site, so I thought I'd post a 'Hi' kinda post...

I just got an x50v - having come from a Psion background...

First impressions have been,

Screen: Wow
Asthetics: Not bad :)
Performance: Erm, exactly what does it do with 624Mhz? :)
Software: Is Windows Mobile 2003 SE actually, er, 'finished'?

Overall - though I'm impressed with it's 'parlour' tricks (such as FMV, VGA et'al) - I'm not that overly impressed with the software on it...

The whole of WM2003SE just feels 'bitty' [and I've already had to restart the machine several times].

I remember looking at Pocket PC devices a few years ago and thinking the same thing...

The only two things that have changed since then are sites like this one (without which, I'd probably be feeling depressed by now!) - and the multitude of 3rd party software which now exists for the machine...

So I leave you struggle to get to grips with things like 'closing' (but not really 'closing') programs, and trying to make Pocket IE a better place with 3rd party ad-ons :)

Welcome, Tacks! Yep, WM2003 has its issues, but this is the place that helps sort those out. :approve:

Congrats on your X50 purchase.

I've just moved from a Sony Clie to an x50v, and must admit to sharing some of your feelings!

Quite! Moving 66MHz to 624MHz you'd expect a noticable speed difference, but the overall operations speed feels about the same. (I know, different CPU's means the speeds aren't directly comparable, but still... )

I've had mine for about 11 days now, and I think I've reset it more times in that period that I reset my Clie ever.

Still, despite these things, I love my X50v. I recently used my Clie to make sure I'd got all important data transferred to my Axim, and I must say it felt quite primitive in comparison.

Yeah, same here - I've been trying to sort out all the Active Sync stuff as well - these things seem to do a lot, but it's all hidden away in pesky, disjointed, hard to get to menus - and a lot of things it does, just aren't "intuitive" by default :(

The x50 obviously does a lot more than my Psion, and most the stuff (like video playback and things) it certainly does a lot quicker - but it's rapidly turning into a 'love/hate' thing - I love it, but I hate the struggle to get it to the point where it's actually doing what I want, how I want :)
