Connecting to Cisco VPN

Just got an Axim X50 high, and the built-in WM2003SE VPN client does not work for my type of connection. My corporate network requires IPSec, with Group Password Authentication followed by user credentials. I know I can't be the only one trying to use this hot device for work related functions.

I've read the previous threads through and through.

MovianVPN / Certicom
Per their own website, "End user versions and trials have been discontinued." MovainVPN Client is now "End-of-Life" [http://www.certicom.com/index.php?ac...ort,endoflife]

All this, even though on Cisco's own website, the following chart shows that Movian is their suggested solution for Handheld or Pocket PC/ Windows CE connecting to Concentrator 3000 series.[http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk58...0094e6d.shtml]

AdmitOne / Funk Software - discontinued.
"As of January 1, 2004, AdmitOne is no longer for sale from Funk Software or any of its authorized distributors. We will provide phone-based tech support for existing customers through June 30, 2004."

It seems all the 3rd party PPC VPN Clients have all but "dried up." The links are all dead and pages can not be found. It seems a limited number of education insitutions may still offer MovianVPN to students and faculty only.

What am I missing??? Even Ebay and software liquidators have turned zero hits...

That would be Cisco VPN with XAuth. I am actually a Network Engineer and support our Cisco VPN solution. I had the same question after I ordered my X50v, so I went looking. First Certicom no longer sells the MovianVPN. If you dug around their site enough, you would have found their licensed partner http://www.worldnet21.com/ still does. In my searches, I also found the following http://www.webservertalk.com/message859579.html on another client that will work with Cisco VPN with XAuth.

Edit: I forgot to add that I have not ordered either yet. We have a wireless project coming up and they may make us support PDAs. If so, then I will most likely be playing with one or both of these packages. I always prefer to do my research before they ask the question "Can we make it work on a PDA?". My answer now will be, "Yes, I think we can, but I will need to test one or both of these two clients. What do I charge it too?" Actually the second link has a 30 day trial of the software to see if it will work. I plan on downloading it and trying it if I even get some free time, which I doubt unless they make it a priority.

Apani

There is another company that has entered the, Apani Networks. Their Nortel Contivity Client works much better than the Movian, but unfortunately its the only client they manufacture for Windows Mobile at this point in time.

Non-Functional/Missing Link

Although the link is listed, there is nothing to download :(
Guess it really is the end.

http://www.worldnet21.com/

is the only site where you still can buy movianVPN untill anthaVPN will be released. They also support this product. Keep in mind that the X50 is not supported!
I do use movianVPN (on my X50v) to connect to our Cisco 3000 on the office. (But had to install version 4.0 in RAM not in Build-in Storage and had to change a key in the registry).

Cool

nice find, I was just looking for a Nortel client. Thanks... going to try it now. When I went to download the trial there is also a choice for Cisco 3000 as well.

Edit: thought I posted with quote, but guess not. This is for the Apani Networks post above...

I've used both the Apani and Movian, and you'll be amazed how much neater and easier the Apani client is to configure. Connected in the first time!

I'm curious...I have a copy of Movian, but I can't put in my key for my VPN. The options (and connection type) only show certificates and hardware based security as my options. If I have an IKE Shared Secret...how the hell do I connect? I went through the options many times and never saw a way to add the key. Username and password - sure...no key though.

I tried the built in PPC VPN and like others in many other topics on VPNs here I get the generic error that something might be wrong. However, with no log file I have no idea what might be wrong.

Yeah, I too thought I was on to something after reading your post. Although the Apani link says PocketPC 2003 Trial for Nortel (http://www.apani.com/html/vpnclients.html), when you actually click the link it prompts for Nortel or Cisco...

Then you have to fill out a form and wait to get the download link. Checked it out and it's for MAC OS! Contacted Apani support and here's what they said:

Quote:
At this time our Apani VPN Client for Cisco is for Mac OS 8-9 only. We do not have a Client for Cisco for Windows Mobile.
So much for that idea...
