Dell UK price drop - will they refund?

I received my Axim X50v on the 30th December which I bought for £340.

I just looked on the website today and to my horror, see that the price has dropped substantially to just £289!!!

Do any of you think that they would refund me the £50? Has anyone had any experience in doing this.

I'm not trying to skank Dell (though i do feel they ripped me off with the £340 i paid!), i just really could do with the cash to get a case for my axim!

Thanks in advance

Just return it and pick up a new one. Or give Dell's customer service a call and sound like you're unsatisfied with the price drop, they might do something about it.

Are you sure they'll give me a cash refund even though i've used it and there is nothing at all wrong with it?

I have had my X50v for 5 days and at the time the price had just gone down to £306 ..so if £289 this week .. what next week ?

I also note that the free gift selection now includes a CF TV tuner.
should I/Can I return it on the 7 day return and will I have to pay a restocking fee?
Thanks in advance for any info ..

EDIT Updated
Just called dell uk for an RMA (the free TV card was hard to resist).. why do I want to return it they ask...
I told them the truth, and they are sending me £17 refund and yes a TV card if this all works out,I will have a TV card and a FM radio card :)
I wonder if they have a dual CF adapter to go with it. :rolling: (guess not)

I just posed the same question to Dell and got the following answer;

Dear Customer,

Thank you for contacting Dell Online Customer Care.

I apologize for any inconvenience this issue may have caused.

Dell's special offers change regularly and should be requested during their validity dates. The special offer to which you are referring had expired before or was introduced after you placed your order.

Unfortunately, we are unable to assist in this particular instance.

Thanks,

Santoshi.

So no dice. Kinda leaves you feeing a little cheated doesn't it! :realmad:

Unfortunately this happens in every market. You buy something and a short time later you see it on sale for less. There's nothing you can do about it.

Mark.

I managed to get a discount when I rang so havent lost out as much, but its still annoying. I heard on the radio, not sure if its correct, but if you buy something before xmas on your credit card and it goes down after, you can get money back through the credit card. Probably completely wrong, but sounds good.

Dell's policy has always been that if the price drops within 30 days of purchase they will refund the difference.

We have got used to prices falling in the electronics sector so you shouldn't feel hard done by.
At the time you ordered you were happy to pay £340, so just accept it.
Personally, once I've bought some new piece of gadgetry I don't check current prices - it's too upsetting.

HOWEVER - in the UK we have the distance selling initiative which gives consumers the right to return goods bought "at distance" (eg. over the internet or by phone) within xx days, for a full refund. I can't remember how many days; probably 14 or 28. A web search should give the details.

Distance selling act in the UK is 7 Days by law, but some companys offer 14 or longer. Dell only offer 7.

And Barclaycard used to do price protection, but have recently dropped it or will be gone 31/01/05 for existing customers as it was costing them to much. But that was only applicable if you found the goods cheaper at another supplier on or offline.

Dell in the UK? Policies vary by country.

Two contrasting opinions here. I think I'll ring them up and tell them I'm unhappy with the price cut and see what they do.

If that fails, I can always return the unit and say I ordered the wrong one and that i've only just returned from a holiday! - but i've opened the packaging. Damn!
Then order a new one, right?

You're still within the 30-day return period. You can always return it if they won't give you a refund.

Well, that's US policy anyway, might be different for Dell UK.

Opening the package shouldn't matter, as long as the contents are in like-new condition.
