ActivSync Problems

Do you have to be connected to the Internet to sync the X50 with the PC? For some reason when I wnet to sync today it would not sync until I was connected to my Internet. Anyone else have this problem?

No, you don't need to be connected to the Internet to sync, but if you have a firewall, you do need to open it up to Activesync. A/S looks to the PC like an internet site trying to access the PC, so the firewall blocks it.

How do I go about opening the firewall up to ActiveSync? Thanks for the help. This problem just started after I download and installed Microsoft Theme Generator.

Hmmm, well, I would uninstall Theme generator to see if it goes away. If it does, then the problem was in Theme Generator. If not, then it could be anything. I don't know what firewall you are using but most of them open a prompt when Activesync starts to connect to ask you if you want to permit the connection. If you answer "yes" then the firewall configures itself to allow that connection.

It might also be somehow associated with Theme Generator if M$ wrote it to check into the Evil Empire Headquarters when run, but that would be pretty nasty of M$ to do.

I did uninstall everything assosciated with Theme Generator. As far as firewal goes, right now I am just using the firewall provided by ISP. I disable that but the problems still continues.
Any other suggestions?

JakeRich:
The problem with syncing disappeared just as suddenly as it appeared.
I have no idea what caused it started and why it stopped when it did, but it is working OK now. Maybe the X50 was just preparing for the BIG
Inaguration Day. Anyway, Thanks for your suggestions.

My problem results when I sync to my Dell laptop, which is hooked to an exoansion port, when I remove my Axim and close our Activesync, and then try to undock computer command, and not close down the laptop system, the computer tells me I am still connected to the pda. This did not happen with my other ppc.

I'm having a similar problem with my (new) X50v. Synchs over USB and IR, but not over the WLAN. Same with firewall disabled, same with theme generator uninstalled. This was not a problem with my X30 -- though perhaps I did something in setting up the X30 that I've not done now.

Noose, did you set up Activsync on the PC/Laptop to accept syncs from the net? If not, that could be the problem. It's the allow Ethernet and RAS option.

Yes, Ethernet/RAS is ticked.

I realised my problem: I relied on the provided documentation instead of going to http://wifi.aximsite.com/sync.html , the way I did when I first got my X30. Imagine that -- relying on manufacturers' docs instead of the good, ol' reliable web community!
