I don't see any trashing as well. It's just a matter of opinion after testing and using the unit not just an estimate/educated guess. I've personally used an hx4700 for over a month and I still like my x50v for its smaller screen size and readability, not to mention the green tinting on the hx that doesn't show up on x50vs. And let's not forget, it's a comparison thread we're having here.

Im reading this on the HP 4705
" Integrated WLAN 802.11b, Bluetooth, Fast Infrared, IrDA, USB & Serial"
Where or how does it have integrated USB and Serial? Does it come with cables to do standard USB? I know serial is possible. Another question is does W2003SE have USB sensing tech?

many ppcs already had USB Host implemented way back in 2002 models, but was not widely used (drivers and developers, etc);
the Intel PXA 27x series Processor has an on-board USB Host controller that can enable the pda to use USB as a host - meaning that, with a driver's help, one can use common peripherials like USB Pen drives, mass storages, HID compliant mouse and keyboard, etc.
You can check here for a list of VGA Pocket PC devices with features like USB hosting.
most of these devices, if they have USB host, requires a separate cable or usb host cable, such as the asus a730 series. and from what I know, the hx4700 series does not have usb host enabled, same as the x50 series.

Can the USB host be enabled through software?

No, unfortunately. It's a hardware specific feature.

No biggie but if you're coming to Aximsite you have to expect some brand loyalty after all and really I don't see where the HX4700 was trashed in that post at all.

Read a few posts earlier where he said the HX4700 should come with morter, comparing it to a brick. Secondly, if you look at my information, you will see that I am an owner of the HX4705, this unit fits my needs. I've been an Axim owner for qute a while and love this site. The point I was making is both units are good and you should pick the one that is best for you without resorting to trashing other products.

That's not called trashing, it's called a joke. You obviously don't have a sense of humor. I thought it was funny, that thing is huge. And anyway, you were doing some trashing yourself, and this is an Axim board. I'm more an Ipaq 1900 guy, so even my X50v seems big, but it's worth it. I guess my feeling on a PDA, if you want big, get a laptop. If you can't stick it in your shirt pocket it's not really a PDA. I guess the thing about the 4700, the X50V does everything that unit does, for nearly half the price after Dell coupons. Oh wait, the 4700 does have a touch pad on a device with a touch screen, I guess it is worth an extra $300.

Like Toddfather said if you are looking at a smaller PDA you would have to go with the Dell. The X50v and 4700 are very different due to the size of the devices. If you want something the size of the X50v or similar you should check out the ASUS A730W or the Fujitsu Loox 720. If you don't mind a bigger device I would go with the 4700. As much as I like X50v I prefer the 4700 over the two.
