Active Sync /Outlook Download Hell--Advice PLease!
So...
I use the disc included with my DellX50 to install Activesync and Outlook. Outlook goes fine. My Dell is not connected to the computer. I try to install Active Sync and get hte following message:
setup could not copy the file D:\MS\ACTSYNC\MAIN\core\inf\WCEUSBSH.CAT'(copy error-1). Restart your desktop computer and run Setup again.
I do so. 3 times. NO luck. I try downloading Activesync directly from Microsoft. Same thing. Has anyone had this problem? I recognize this is a problem with my computer specifically, not the Dell, but any advice would be very appreciated.
Cheers

This is only a shot in the dark, but you might want to try and use Windows Explorer to dig down into your CD that came with your Dell, and look for a file with the name IS_SETUP.EXE which will probably be located under the ActiveSync Folder... you will have to look for it. Double click on that file and see if ActiveSync begins to install.

No dice
As before, it loads up to 92%...then stops and I get the error message. This is really pissing me off. There is no reason on earth this puppy shouldn't be loading.
Thanks for trying. Anyone else?

I know that under Virtual Pc the installer stalls at 92% for a long time (10-15 minutes)... so there is something going on at that mark, but I was not aware of the delay being noticeable for RealWindows users.
So start the installer.. walk away, then come back, ya never know.

You might want to try and disable any virus software or firewalls you have running (like ZoneAlarm). If you are on XP Service Pack 2, you may want to disable some of their firewall too. Run Adaware? Anything else like that? Basically, disable anything and everything in sight and try it again. Make sure Outlook isn't running, nor any other program, when you run the installer. If you are concerned with the safety/security of your PC, you can always disable the network line (unplug it) while you run the install and then plug it back in once your firewalls/virus software are running again.
Just my two cents. Hope it works. I installed the software both at home and work w/o any incident. Odd you are having a problem.
Good luck!

I had problems with Outlook 2002 on both CD's that came with the x30h and x50v. both CD's didn't allow access to outlook files, so I backed out of that and went back to 2000. But you might try clearing everything out and installing Active Sync first.

Are your USB ports configured correctly?? The file that is missing may not be coping because it is not finding the approprite USB port.
just a guess.
