Calling All X50(v) Owners! We need to Get Together

I think that a X50 and X50v FAQ thread is well in order here. Many of the same threads are being created mere hours apart from each other. But a thread that gave a tutorial as well as minor trouble shooting tips for such topics as:

VGA Optimization
BetaPlayer How To's
GAPI Tweak
Gmail and the X50
Syncing with multiple computers
Return policies
Customizing PIE
Memory Managment
How To Make Movies For the X50(v)

A Thread covering all these topics with enough information to solve most problems would be a God send for the cleanliness of this forum (As well as my sanity ) Some of these topics would require only a link to previously written tutorials and write-ups, whereas others would need to be built from the ground up. Having a 'One Stop Shop' place to find information on many of the most basic topics would truly be a benefit to new members of the forum. Though I do not feel I am experienced in all of these topics to write this thread in its entirety, I would gladly like to join with other users in this forum to produce a very comprehensive and well put together thread that covered all of these basic topics that we seem to run across when playing with our PDAs.

Please contact me if you would like to head up a topic on the list and write a tutorial, how to, or troubleshooting help section, or feel free to add a topic if you feel I have missed something basic (Which wouldn't surprize me)

Thanks,
-Brad

You should write the FAQ and email it to Chris so he can post in in the FAQ section properly.

Things like BetaPlayer, and SE_VGA and ozVGA have thier own FAQs so be careful you are not rewriting too many things.

Let me know if you need help and I'll see what I can do. I suspect we can find most things in the Forums...

Cheers

Yes these were my thoughts exactly...

For BetaPlayer and ozVGA we can just link to thier FAQs but for the rest it is pretty much just centeralizing(is this a word? And if so did I spell it correctly? ) the infomation into once easy to read thread. For example I read through 15 pages of the GAPI tweak thread only to find out that PocketSNES is fully functioning with it yet. Frusturating? Indeed

But yeah, If anyone feels they have adequate knowledge in, or the answer to, one of these departments feel free to claim it for a write up :) (The write-ups do not need to be pages and pages, but only enough to cover the topic well;))

You can do it

I think "centeralizing" is a word... except I would replace the "z" with an "s" because I am from Australia not the USA :)

Ok first things first... lets make a list... I think you should add topics suggested by people to the top of this post in your original post and add the persons name beside the topic so we don't get double ups. Also there is heaps of general stuff in the other FAQs, despite the fact is says X30 it is really general.

I suggest adding
- What is QVGA, VGA and True VGA?
- X50's Sound Chip and Graphic Equaliser
- WMP10 Issues
- Playing DivX/Xvid Movies
- Playing MP3/WMA
- Creating MP3/WMA
- Data Transfer Rates (USB1.1 supported only)

Anyway that is a start. If I get some time I will write about it and PM you the information to put into the FAQ.

Cheers
Adrian

I tend to agree with you, but the big question is whether this will really stop people from creating the new threads with the same questions.

I think it is most people's quick self gratifying ways that tend to lead them to make a new thread when they have a "quick" question instead of searching for existing material.

Just my opinion...

Nobody would read it. There are stuck threads and main page tutorials/guides covering those issues already and they're seldom referred to.

Don't Panic! is right. There is a tutorial on WiFi, but people still post questions because they don't read the tutorial first, and people answer questions directly instead of pointing the asker to the tutorials. We tend to ask first and answer directly, not read tutorials (or manuals for that matter).

But, if you want to write a FAQ and submit it to Chris, I'm sure he'd consider it for posting. Just don't expect it to dimish the questions very much.

I'd like to have it there for future reference--especially the tutorial on Beta Player.

Centralizing.

This is a great idea to make aximsite.com boring and dead like brighthand. What's making this site fun to visit is seeing different posts everyday, even if it's the same questions over and over again. People are motivated more to register if they can ask a question and get a simple answer with a link. If they have a one stop shopping experience there will be no need to register and this site will soon see it's end. Just my 2 cents, I've been around forums 7 years and this has been my experience. Let people post and just help them out.

Can I just add one thing...?

Maybe also a "what you should install in your first week" thread/FAQ. Its really hard tryin to swim through all the information available to find tweeks and add-ons when you really don't know what you're doing!
It would be great to have a list - ie:

Oz-vga: use to enable true-vga mode. Allows user to adjust font sizes.
sevga: enables true-vga, but with fewer options than oz-vga
Betaplayer: play movies and music. Kick Mediaplayer's butt.
That graphics thingo (what's it called?): Makes graphics faster.
That sound-equalizer thingo (what's it called?): Allows sound tweeking
Some memory applications: Allows for making memory do better stuff, and stuff.

Get the idea?
This would be really helpful for people who, like me, will otherwise spend at least two hours trying to find each of these, or just give up and assume they don't exist.

Also, Australia rocks.

Also, these messages appear faster than I can read them! Fun is good, but I think I'm missing all the funny stuff because I can only read every 5th thread. Oh well, my loss.

Also, sorry for the bump!

Bobby, Jake:

I agree wholeheartedly that folks don't take advantage of the resources that have already been so painstakingly put together for them!

That said, I found this thread only by searching for some VGA knowledge. I cannot find an FAQ on VGA; nor on the X50 at all. The FAQ page shows only five device related FAQs, and zero for the X50 - too new, I guess! I have an X5, X3, X30, Asus 716, and just recently added the X50v. I have written one application, and I am probably as knowledgeable about PPC hardware and software as anyone here. (No disrespect intended! My GPS knowledge is miniscule compared to Jake! And I don't compare at all with IkeHiker on connectivity issues! Just general knowledge.)

But in the early days of my X50v experience here, I'm not sure if my device is in SE_VGA, Real VGA, True VGA, Native VGA, Actual VGA, or Crosby Stills Nash & Young VGA!! (I've actually come across all of those terms while searching during the last few days - except the CSN&Y of course!)

So if you guys know of an FAQ I'm missing, please just point me toward it.

Thanks!
