Just to make sure I understand the backup process (I'd rather ask a stupid question than have to do a hard reset and then find out I didn't have anything back up). . . When the X50 syncs with my home computer, it is only backing up things like contacts, task, notes, etc. that are associated with Outlook.
In order to do a backup of everything on my X50, I need to go to programs, data backup, and backup all data. I just did this but I think I backed it up to the "Built-in Storage."
(1) Should I have backed up to there or to the SD card? Can you also back up to the home PC?
(2) I'd just hate to lose my data. Other than the programs I have downloaded (which have just gone to whatever default directory the installer said) I've been putting stuff like a movie, pictures and screens on my 512bm SD card. Is this the best place to place these files.
(3) Lastly, I have a DAVA icon in my programs but when I click on it a message says it cannot find it? Was that program on the X50 when it arrived and did I somehow delete it (I don't recall downloading it).
Chris,
According to these boards Sprite Backup is the program to use. The Premium edition will let you backup on your PC. I keep a backup on my SD card but I have sceduled backups to the PC. Most of your programs can go onto your SD card,if they don't work corrrect there then install them into the BIS. Hope this helps.
Thanks, I'll have to get Sprite backup then. As a side note, I'm feeling a little overwhelmed with all the programs that are out there to download. I guess it is better to have a large selection but I'm getting confused as to what is what and which is better.
Without third party apps, there are two ways to backup - using the backup program on your Axim or via ActiveSync. Storing your backups in either Built In Storage or memory card would be considered "safe" since a hard reset only deletes items stored/installed in Main Memory. Having said that, you can also manually copy your backups via ActiveSync over to your desktop for added security.
As Gothman mentioned, many people prefer using Sprite Backup. The advantage to Sprite include speed and the ability to create self-extracting backups. If you are interested, there is a review in the reviews section:
As to where you install your movies, music, etc., yes, the best place would be on a memory card. You can also put programs on your memory card, provided that they are not today plugins or programs that run on startup; some programs also specify they should be installed in Main Memory (default).

Don't feel compelled to try everything at once. Just decide on what you'd really need/like and then go from there. As you read more posts, you will get a feel for what people generally recommend and what is tried and true. :)
I took advice from this forum and downloaded Sprite Backup and I'm pleased that I did. Now it just runs in the background doing schedualed backups every mornig at 4am. And I've used it to restore my Axim on several ocasions. I can't remember who recomended Sprite to me bu thanks again. :)

Can anyone reading this thread tell me how to get a program icon off the start, programs, page? I had download HP Mobile Printing but couldn't get it to work. I went to add/remove programs and uninstalled it. However, the HP Modile printing icon still appears in Programs. Also, I either downloaded DAVA or it came on the X50 (not sure which anymore) but I apparently deleted it because it says it cannot find it. I'd like to remove that icon also from the programs page.
File Explorer->Windows->Start Menu-> Programs-> Delete the useless app icon.
