Exclamation Solterra Demo is Out

http://solterra.blacksmithstudios.com/

I have had the privilege of testing this the past week or two. I was asked however not to let it out ... I have now been given the go ahead to pass the word along ... :approve:

Not bad but I wish they allowed stylus control, using the D-pad is clunky and I find myself running into asteroids / pillars due to it.

I was expecting some stylus control in there too ... but it is still a demo so who knows.

I actually prefer to run it with the PDA in power save mode - it slows the game down a bit - call me old :)

They apparently are working on the sound effects also.

Yeah, I noticed there was only music and no sound effects. The music sucks too so it makes for pretty bland gameplay. I'm not really a fan of these Starfox-type games but it's definitely pretty impressive.

oh boy oh boy oh boy! I am dl'ing it right now.

ok now i've tried it. graphics truly are amazing. this thing really shows off the awesome capabilities of the 2700g. i was impressed how smoothly it ran on my x50v, even off the CF card.

a few things to note. the install procedure status bar looked like it was frozen for awhile because it wasn't updating the files it was copying, but after a while it said install finished.

also looks like it won't work w/ the gapi tweak enabled.

doesnt seem to be any sound effects in the game, just a background music soundtrack.

overall i must say bravo and am glad to see companies step up to producing things that take advantage of the 2700g.

its a verry nice game, BUT before I am gonna buy it the controls HAVE to be improved..

I wan't stylus control and smoother control with the d-pad so the plane doesn't go farest left or right just by giving a little click with the d-pad witch makes the game right no way to hard to get a enemy down..

and I want to be able to configurate the buttons!

I've tried to install it twice now and both times it started to install and then frozen.
Oh well, I will try again latter.

Wow.. they finally released a PPC demo.. graphics look good, but the pop up is terrible.. though it is just a beta version, I'm sure that it can be fixed..

Ya it runs great and looks great. Just add some sounds, get a new soundtrack, better controls, and either fix the popin (uguly and close) or add some fog to hide or fade stuff in. (if this chip can do any of that) Other than that its awsome to see a 3d game finally being made for the ppc.

I was certainly wowed when it locked up my X50v. I uninstalled it (I mean - deleted it manually, since there IS NO uninstall) and reinstalled it to my SD card and it still locks up my X50v when I run it. The text on my screen goes 'aliased' and it locks up requiring a reset.

Definitely a brilliant demo. :approve:

I'm kidding, but it'd be nice if it worked for all of us!

You need to disable all GAPI tweaks you may have enabled in order to make this run.

Tala

ps. I am really happy that some developers already picking up with hardware accelerated 3d :)
