ROM update doesn't fix the BT/WiFi issues? What the hell was the point then!?
I'm angry. I haven't installed this ROM update on my x50V but I'm having doubts on whether I should. It doesn't fix the two most PREVALENT issues with the unit. Wifi and bluetooth.
Why the heck not?! COME ON DELL!!!

I think you underestimate the severity and complexity of the WiFi/BT issues since all WM2003SE PPCs appear to have these issues (with the exception of the A730 which has an older version of BT (1.1 instead of 1.2)). The update does, however, fix a number of other problems including screen sensitivity(!) Just take a look at all that's being discussed in the ROM Update thread!

I honestly wasn't having any major issues, but this BT/WiFi bug makes Bluetooth unusable for me with any plugins on the Today screen. Just because the issue is 'severe' doesn't mean that Dell can dodge fixing it. If Dell releases a product, they should stand by it and fix it, no matter what.

I have not experienced any problem with either WiFi nor BT. This message is posted from a free WiFi hotspot with the latest X50v A02 ROM.

Since the upgrade I'm FINALLY able to browse the web with the wifi being on "POWER SAVE MODE"! I was not able to do tis before as it kept disconnecting. I also have a MUCH BETTER reception and I can stream music and video! Well worth it and I'm sure most everyone will do this update once they just stop reading this site and just do IT!

Well I'm amazed you haven't read the sticky in the 'hardware problem' area. People are getting a 'network card in socket 2' message when enabling wifi, and a Bluetooth out of memory error when enabling Bluetooth, even with 30MB or so free for programs.
I just installed this update and now I can enable EITHER Wifi OR Bluetooth, but not both simultaneously. Better than it was, but not perfect.
The problem lies with Today plugins it seems. Windows Mobile SE is not allocating resources properly.
If I have Journal Bar, Pocket Breeze and Pocket Plus on my Today page, I can't enable both wifi and bt at the same time. If I disable them from the Today page, all works perfectly. I'm mad that Dell didn't fix this glaring issue!

I too am VERY upset about this ROM update. There is absolutely no excuse that we cannot use the product the way it was advertised to us. I can understand that a new product may have bugs right out of the box, but Dell has to be aware of this issue, and to totally ignore it with the first ROM update is very disapointing. I'm sure that like myself, many people that purchased these units were total PPC newbs before they got their Axim. I had no idea that this problem plagued many WM2003 devices, but if it is as widespread as it seems, then surely Dell knew about it. They should have reconsidered adding both WiFi/BT or at the least put a disclaimer somewhere saying that you would have difficulty using both at the same time. I mean come on, now I can't surf the web and use a BT mouse, or use Skype with a BT headset. That's just ridiculous to me! It's also very disapointing when you want to show your new device off to someone and you go to enable WiFi and you get that stupid error. Then you have to reset, etc., etc., and it doesn't really seem all that impressive at that point. I had one of my co-workers convinced to buy one, and then he saw that error and changed his mind after I explained everything to him. I wonder how many sales they've lost like that?
Don't get me wrong. I love my Axim, and I will probably continue to use it for a number of years. I guess I got burned for being an early adopter, and that happens sometimes, so what can you do? I will just wait for the next ROM update!
FYI - I have 37 MB of total free RAM. 30 for program and 7 for storage, and I still encounter this error almost daily. The only two things installed to main memory on my device are Journal Bar and Pocekt Plus.
Cheers!
Dr. Gonzo

I know you're frustrated, and it's odd how it would work on one device and not another... especially when you reset the device to factory settings and start from scratch. I use both BT and WiFi simultaneously daily. This would leave me to believe you are having a software conflict somewhere, but that is total speculation knowing nothing about what you have loaded in your Ax.
Wishing you success in solving this problem,
Doug

BT and wifi DO work with a hard reset. They just don't work when you have any plugins on the Today screen.

I too thought it was a software issue. I did a hard reset on my Axim and installed nothing on it for two days, and the issue came up again. I thought it was a hardware issue, but everyone on here who received a replacement unit for this issue, said that it came back.

Is it possible the problem is in the Today screen software and not the ROM? I've run into some of these issues too, but am not sure if the problems are from the OS or the software. It is frustrating.

As someone said in the update topic, why dont you try the update first?
Really, I feel your pain, but, come on, the update cant hurt you.
Maybe it fixes, is not like if is not listed is not fixed.
Good luck to both of you
