Switching From Ip To Mac

Can anyone help me? I have a DI-624 dlink extreme G wireless router. I've had it for about 5 months, and it worked fine with my other devices, but know it on occassion my axim x50v's IP get's switched to the Mac address, has anyone else experienced this problem, and if so what can I do. Could it be the router itself?

Can you give more detail as to how you know that your IP is incorrect? I've been a network admin for years and have never heard of such a thing.

I'll bet it's an IPv6 address. It looks like a MAC address but it's not.

Can you post exactly what it's showing.

Well when i go to network cards and then settings and configure network adapters and it axim x50 adapter, under use server assigned ip address it has my device MAC instead of the IP. I do know the difference between an ip 192.168...etc and a MaC OO-ef...etc.

I've also found if i unplug my cable modem and wi-fi router and the plug up again it changes back to ip and connects to the internet again.

What exactly is the MAC of the Axim and what exactly is the address that is being shown? Have you ever used IPv6?

sorry that was stupid he couldnt have gotten a "local" adress from outside his LAN.. (if he's using it as intended, with the router WAN connected to modem)

to justify my stupidity, i connect the modem to a regular port and have public ip's on my WLAN thats why i thought he could have gotten the ipv6 from outside the routers realm.

Right - the DLink may not be ipv6 capable, but WM2003 SE is. It could be that it's the IPv6 equivalent of a ipv4 169.254 address. Seems a LOT more plausable to me than the PPC actually confusing a MAC address with an IP address.
