No, definitely not. For one thing, the amount of power that any memory drains is miniscule. Second, the Axim's flash ROM, i.e. BIS, is ALWAYS running. It's what stores the operating system. And the slowness of BIS is greatly overrated--I have my full 50+ MB of programs installed to BIS and I've never had any speed complaints.

no, but it may take a little longer to load. apps that access a db on BIS will be slower. I keep most of my programs in BIS.

I have many application installed to BIS and have seen no noticeable difference in speed. Today plugins I put in internal memory. Graphics intensive games I suggest put on the CF or SD card. Otherwise I don't think you will notice a difference with other applications you install to the BIS.

From my experience, I disagree. I have several programs that read and write to a database file in BIS, and it is very noticeably slower. As such, I have moved all of my apps out of BIS and back into main memory. I'm now using BIS to store my backup file and other files that I don't routinely use on a daily basis.

As for WeatherPanel, it runs just fine from my BIS. SPB PocketPlus on the other hand, WILL NOT run from anything aside from main memory.
EDIT: I just noticed that I also have Stuntcar Extreme installed on my BIS, but I know that I told it to install to my SD card. Anyone have any idea why it didn't install there?

It may not be a shared type of program and therefore only be allowed to be installed on your 50. BIS may be the default location in that instance.

Re: Agenda Fusion -- I moved it to BIS and it works 100% better. It was so very slow in tasks/calendar when you tried to edit the date using the calendar. (even after uninstalling and re-installing) Now that I reinstalled it to BIS it has instant response just like it used to on my 5555.
(FYI, I haven't done the ROM update, still considering it. Everything is working great now so I don't know if I want to fix what isn't broken)

Anything that just reads data out of storage is probably ok to anywhere (SD/CF/BIS/MM). It's the writes that kill you. BIS is the slowest of all of them. That70sGAdawg, you might be right. SD/CF are very similar and very dependant on the card's speed so it might just be my CF card is faster than my SD card.

Correct. Axim BIS is actually quite fast for reads.. which is why the system ROM isn't cloned into RAM (as is the case for some PPCs that use cheaper=slower Flash memory).
The downside to the fast reads is that writes are slower.
You should also keep in mind that BIS can only be written to for a relatively small number of times (about 100,000). This is a non-issue for apps that don't store their data in the application folder... but an app that uses its own folder for scratch storage or uses self-modifying code could shave some life off of your BIS. (There's been debates on this before, if you are interested, you can use Search to find them.)

I'd like to purchase Battery Pack Pro & E-wallet, Would it be best to install in main memory or Bis?
Thanks.
