ROMUpdateUtility MFC Application has encountered a problem

hard reset my Dell x50v, downloaded rom update, expanded and clicked on update got as far as the first screen clicked update got to next screen about backup but alos got

ROMUpdateUtility MFC Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

the details where:

AppName: aximupdate.exe AppVer: 1.0.0.0 ModName: ctagent.dll
ModVer: 1.0.0.8 Offset: 0000a910

Help, what am I doing wrong, active sync connects fine.

What version of Windows are you using?

XP SP2

Ok got past for error the reference to CTagent.dll was something to do with creative sound card, disabled anything to do with creative in msconfig and hey presto got to back up installed rom

But.....

Then got white screen on axim saying Rom update utility A00

"waiting for USB to be ready"

and get another error window on PC

have to soft boot axim back to setup screen and original rom -ARghhh

Its seems during rom update that active sync looses the connection - why any help anyone
