I talked to Dell and they said that I was supposed to use Active Sync pass through to connect to the internet. They told me that is the only way to do it. Is that true? If so, is there much of a difference in the speed between the two? Do you think this is a problem that is not fixable?
I can tell you that Dell is rarely correct in what they tell you. :)
Having said that, though, does your Bluetooth dongle/software on your desktop/laptop allow for internet pass through? Can Internet Connection Sharing work over Bluetooth, or is there custom software to fool it into doing so?
If the iPAQ can do it, I'd find it hard to believe the Axim couldn't.

That is silly.
I use my x50v to access the internet directly from my wireless router...with the host computer turned off... I have also used it in a Starbucks and no one there was letting me sync.
Why would Dell tell you that? Anyway, do you have to connect via bluetooth? If not, turn it off until they get the squirrely bt problem fixed.
As for connecting, it does sound like you need a sign on and password...which should be the same sign on and password to the same domain you use in your dorm room to connect to the university net.
EDIT- OOPS - didn't see the part about connection to the blue tooth adapter... but still... if I can connect to the net via my bluetooth enabled cell phone, you should be able to do it here.

Well, after a 2 hour phone convo with Dell I am getting a brand new x50v. The guy that I talked to on the Dell support line was acctually smart. We tried everything he, as well as I, could possibly think of and it still wouldn't work. It would connect through the pass through internet via Activesync, but it would never connect via direct bluetooth. I could sync with bluetooth, but I couldn't get an internet connection. It kept trying to connect via dial up and that dang Bluetooth Null Modem. And everytime I tried to change it to connect using strait Bluetooth it would give me an error say that there is no Bluetooth hardware found. It was so frusterating. Anyway, they are sending me a new one, so I am crossing my fingers and hoping this one works. :rolling: Thanks for all of your help everyone! I really appreciate it.

The hard reset did nothing. That is why I am haveing to get a new one sent to me. Thanks for trying to help anyway. Maybe do it with a few more words next time.
Before this spirals out of control, maybe you guys should sit down and have a nice cup of decaf.
Demanding to be thanked is kind of silly. These are forums designed for the exchange of information. You exchanged accurate information...we don't give medals for that here.
I had exactly the same problem, Connected... but no authorisation. Here's how manage to solve it.
I found that somehow the settings in BT Serial Port and Active Sync had differenet COM set.
I checked the settings in BT services > BT Serial Port and had there assinged COM3.
Then I set Active Sync COM port exactly the same as my BT Serial Port had - COM3. Took my Axim out of cradle and finally I managed to connect via BT and Sync.
Note: U can't change ports in AS if PDA is active so turn it off, or take out of cradle. Of course the devices have to be paired before.
