x50 mid/low competition? new olympus product...

I work for Olympus in Tech Support and just found out about a new PDA we're putting out. I don't yet know anything beyond what this article says. I just thought you guys might want to know about the competition!

The part here that is interesting is the water resistance and ruggedness - can be dropped on concrete and be fine! With Olympus putting it into the market, a new iteration of the Axim will probably come out to match the features before too long

BTW, bleh, I was told it is only coming out in Europe/Asia at this time... I was looking forward to being the expert on the unit.

Also, notice the picture of the unit with the icons on it must be just some kind of a photoshop of a Win98 desktop expanded on the screen, because we know that Windows Moble doesn't look like that at all. Also, know that CE 4.2 IS Windows Mobile 2003...

Not sure yet... A friend of mine says that there is going to be a PDA expo in Orlando!! That is where I work (live 30 miles north), so I think I will be definately going. I'll let you all know how it goes. I think I'll even drop the unit if I get a chance (and accidentally kick it when I try to pick it up) just to make sure it's really as durable as they say. I'll probably spill a coke on it too.

BTW, my friend gave me this link which has some info about the event...

http://www.pma-show.com/

I'm at work so I haven't actually read either link fully yet, want to make sure to get you the news first, as it happens ;).

I bet it has a slot. If you look at the profile, it looks as if there's a tab to lift up a cover where it may be.

This is not a windows mobile 2003 device.
Win CE 4.2 is not equal to windows mobile. That explains the UI look. win CE is the base (kernel) for windows mobile on top of which MS adds the bells and wistles like pocket word, excel and other stuff to make what we know as WM2003. Meaning a lot of the software written for WM2003 or PPC2002 wont work on this device. It similar to be300 that casio relesed 2-3 years ago, it was a great, fast, cheap winCE3.0 (ppc2002 was based on wince3.0) device that dissapointed a lot of users when they realised that the plethora of PPC2002 software wont work on it.

Why would Dell want a new version to imitate these features? It's big, ugly, and poor specs, the X50v is far ahead anyway. Unless you were working in a really harsh environment I can't imagine wanting one. You really don't have to worry about being an expert on this device for us, I really doubt anyone would care.

Ah no not really I have no connection with cbutter whatsoever.
I did my part for the Be300 community on my own, by running a little software page for a while. Aah those were the days...

Wow, you are an asshole!

All I am saying is that it has a feature that it would be a good idea for Dell OR ANY MANUFACTURER to implement into their devices. How would you like to drop your PDA and not have to worry about it breaking apart?

Well, I hope in your case that you drop yours, it breaks, then it splinters and stabs you a few times and you contract some type of horrible disease since you are such an asswipe. :approve:

I actually think its a nice looking product. It doesn't have all the features I want, but I have always liked Olympus styling. Rugged, minimalistic and overbuilt are just my brand.
