which do you prefer, gsplayer or mortplayer?

i dont mean to start a new argument, but i am just wondering, which do you prefer, gsplayer, or mortplayer? i have kind of used both, but i just really want a reliable mp3 player. i find alot of people kinda split on this issue through the forums.
so please tell me the pros and cons of both players that you guys like..

Most people here usually use Pocketmusic or Betaplayer. I use Betaplayer because Pocketmusic isn't 100% VGA-compatible yet.

I like Betaplayer and GSPlayer (not VGA) and I have had no problems with either. I have not used mortplayer though.

GSPlayer uses the MAD library, which is a very good and high quality mp3 decoder, probably better than any I've ever heard.

I have been using Pocket Music now for 3 months and have liked it alot, but I am wondering how I can get the most battery life out of the x50v while playing mp3's. I might give this GSPlayer a try as well. Is there any techniques any of you use for playing mp3's? Mine is to keep the unit at 208 Mhz, start Beta Player playing, minimize it, and hold the power button until the screen goes dark.
I find doing this, a 15 minute drive to work eats between 6 and 8% of the battery.

Any other things I can try?

What is MAD? Does GSPlayer, because of its higher quality decoder, use more battery juice?

turning the screen completely off saves more power than just dimming it. to do that in gsplayer go to tools->options->then move over to the right for buttons then you can set a button to turn the display on or off.

also, if you are starting to use your axim in the 90% range it is normal for it to drain quick, when you get in the 80% or 70% range it should slow down. thats how lithium ions work, i remembered someone posted a graph depicting it.

Mad Library description.

You can use this as a test:
MAD Plugin for Winamp

Here's two sample files from the MAD homepage:
Nullsoft Decoder
MAD Decoder

Not everyone will hear a difference, depending on their speaker setup and stress on good audio. I happen to like the difference :).

I use GSplayer, after having tried WinAmPAQ and PocketMusic.
I hold my "current" MP3s on a 1Gb CF card, and to me, the only problem wit GSPlayer is to create a playlist. You can't open directly a full folder, you have to explicitely add every file one by one... Apart from that, it's perfect.

I use gsplayer and I like it a lot! I agree with you about betaplayer being not friendly when playing mp3. My 4GB microdrive loves  betaplayer with movies though :approve:

i liked gsplayer a lot but i find it ate power even when i had my pda on power saving madness mode lol. (screen off, 208mhz, nothing else running) and it still only lasted around 2+ hrs. With pocketmusic it seams to last a bit longer.

Interesting... Well I hav installed GSPlayer and I must say I like it quite a bit, but turning off the screen completely is very cool, and I think it must be able to save a bit more juice than pocket music. I will try it out for a week and see if there is any better way to conserve juice. I really would like to be able to get 4 Hrs of music out of the thing! Also something I like about pocket music over GSplayer is whatever song is playing, that song is highlighted in the playlist. With GS Player is there a way to make this happen?
