Thanks for mentionning PocketTV Classic, although we would prefer a link to www.pockettv.com rather than the link to the Handango page...
PS: it would be valuable to indicate, with each title, if they require a VGA hack (like SE_vga) or not in order to take full advantage of the VGA resolution, and if they take advantage of other x50v specific things, like the 2700G.

Would just like to say thanks for taking over the list. I'm sure it will now be a more valuable resource than ever.

One suggestion: consider clarifying that some of the products you list as "essential" are redundant. I know this is obvious to most of us, but I'd hate to see a newb run out and buy both Agenda Fusion and PI because they thought both were needed.

Thanks for the input; all subjective notation has been removed and Pockettv Classic is now on the list (beneath Betaplayer).
Please note that the previous VGA Optimised Software List has been removed pending moderation. Thanks.

I really would like to know, which of the application mentioned above are actually really VGA optimized.
Some of the applications in the list just happen to run with one of the VGA hacks without any optimization at all. Technically they should not be in the list.
You may also want to add PocketSNES OpenGL , which is native VGA optimized.

That's not right. I for one need true VGA optimized software because I run my Axim X50v in true VGA mode all the time. I think there are many.
Thats why you see threads and posts related to SE_VGA and osVGA; which are needed to get the full potential of the Axim X50v.
I think this thread still has some value. The reason is as the popularity of the Axim X50v increased (there is a short supply of the unit by Dell especially in Europe) more people will buy it and hence the need for this thread to be sticky.
Also, it would be of interest to see the list of the winners and nominee for Pocket PC software by PocketPC Magazine "Best Software Award 2004"
note: these are lists from pre-VGA era

Yes, I noticed. Not a big loss, but too bad "obvious" did not get a change to clarify what was incorrect in our list of statements.
Thanks for maintening this new list, it is a very good resource.
Still, it would be interesting to have a bit more info, e.g. to know if each title just work fine in VGA (most Pocket PC titles should) or if it really takes advantage of it (other than by having nicer, more readable fonts, nicer icons etc).

Thanks.

a) Only a minority use such hacks, but i guess they have some value to some people.
b) My personal view is, that you only get the full potential out of the X50v with native VGA optimized applications*, rather than using hacks, which fiddle with the GDI subsystem in a non standard way.
Tala
*As the title of the thread implies, we are talking about such applications here.

Tabnet5, one simple request but may be hard to do!
Can we have a separate list of software that are compatible with true/real VGA mode?
Thanks

I don't think that SE_VGA and osVGA are needed for the "full potential of the Axim X50v".
The "True VGA" mode is sometimes useful, if you have good eyes and if your hand does not shake, for applications like web browsing, when the screen space is so valuable that the think NavBar and MenuBar waste too much vertical space - or because the application (like PIE) is not well optimized to take advantage of VGA.
I have been using a Toshiba e800 for a long time, with the "True VGA" hacks installed, and I found that I seldom use them. Certainely they are completely useless for playing video if the player can display video in VGA resolution without the hacks.

That would be nice, and also indicate which VGA "hack" they are compatible with, as there are several.

I would also prefer that, if possible, you provide the link to the main page of each title, i.e. to the developer's site, rather than to a Handango page.
The developer's site contains much more valuable information on the title (e.g. FAQ, forums, etc), in most cases, and it will *always* give ways to get the *latest* version.

I for one liked the "recomended" notes. While I am sure they are all good programs, the "recomended" help me narrow it down a bit. Like the PocketTV vs. BetaPlayer. Both good programs, but I would still recomend BetaPlayer over PocketTV. Maybe there is another way to recomend one without making people think you need the others. Nice Job on the list!
