Intel ports fps to the x50v, complete with source

Intel has ported the cube game engine to opengl es, ie the x50v

Complete with source code, this does single player death match, multiplayer networked... Still runs a bit slow but it's a good start.

Looks superb. Thanks for the heads up. Just need to find out if I can make it play left handed (upside down).

EDIT - Works left handed if you switch the Axim to Landscape left handed first -

unzip cube_2004_05_22_pocketpc_bin_xscale_opengl_es.zip to CF/SD/Built in storage then make a shortcut in your games folder to cube.exe

It's a development unit....a technology demonstration device. It isn't nor will it ever be a retail design.

Wow - this is a very neat thing to have open sourced. Takes a while getting used to the controls, but the potential of having this engine available is fantastic.

Just need a few mods now :)

Mark.

Well it works from a network mapped drive =) but i get 8-12 fps and i have set everything to lowest.. still i have a x50v, could the network share slow it down THAT much?
And how do i find online servers? They are all for PC (different protocol) =(

Can't help with the online play bit - but I do know there's an FPS improvement if you're not running under true VGA.

You still get a fairly sluggish frame rate, but it's certainly playable.

Im running in SE VGA mode.. ALthough resco file explorer which i use to start it over the network has VGa hack applied but that shouldnt cause trouble think..

Nah - that wouldn't affect anything. I'm in work - so no time to play :)

More memory may help, as will using a map that isn't so texture heavy.

Mark.

what fps are you guys getting? my fps when monsters are active are definitely below 10 at any given point. The engine might be nice, but it's unplayable even on a powerful device like the X50v

that's my point, as soon as you see a monster controls go to hell :/
I even put all details on lowest, which didn't seem to make any difference at all.

Does the Dell Axim X50V come with OpenGL* ES 1.0 Common-Lite standard or is this something that needs to be downloaded?

Well, read the help file. Here's why your frame rate sucks with monsters:

Minimum System Requirements:
624Mhz Intel(R) XScale(R) processor
Intel(R) 2700G Multimedia Accelerator
Microsoft* Windows Mobile* 2003 Second Edition
64Mb RAM minimum, 128Mb for single player with monsters
OpenGL* ES 1.0 Common-Lite
