x50v or hx2750

I know this is a dell forum and the views of people will reflect that, but given the choice between a x50v and a hx2750 which would be the best option for:-
GPS
MP3's
Textmaker
Web Browsing /email
TV remote control
Terminal server

I'm using a H5555 at the moment, I enjoy the 128mb ram but the lack of a built in CF slot is a pain in the arse, and the screen seems to be slow to respond (slower than the h2210 it replaced).
My worries with the x50v are:-
VGA screen lag
64mb ram
Build Quality
Battery Life

I'm not planning on getting either device until late march or early april. Are my concerns about the x50v valid?
I've posted a similar question on ipaqhq so that I can compare responses and find out whats good and bad about both devices.

thanks for all the good info on aximsite

I havnt had a chance to play with my X50V yet (still charging) but it was the pda of choice. After reading as many reviews as possible and reading the forums for a week the choice was clear.

For what you want to do, I would go with the one that is cheaper (unless you have the money and want to spend it) I am not familiar with the pocket pc you mentioned is this it? http://www.shopping.hp.com/cgi-bin/h...ABA&catLevel=3
If it is GO WITH THE DELL
The x50v is much cheaper and although it doesn't have 128mb of ram, the x50v would be a much better overall value.

yeah thats the pocket pc I was considering, sorry for the slow response, I forgot to update my email address, Here I was thinking this forum is slow to respond and all the time it was me lol.

Thanks for the advice, the dell is looking more and more like the best choice. Is there any considerable screen lag with the x50v when using menus?

thanks again
Rob

Hi

I've owned about 6 pda's now and have just changed to the dell axim x50v...

Build Quality : Surprisingly good for a non-metal PDA, feels solid and robust in your hand although the Sony Ericsson T610 style finish does pick up finger prints.

VGA screen : Any lag is caused by the OS in my opinion, there is a slight delay with menus but no more than other PPC's, not as fast as a palm mind you.

64Mb of ram : no problem (you get another 64mb of storage anyway) as long as you use sd or cf and install most programs not in main memory (which I believe everyone does anyway)

Battery Life : Not brilliant, but I've yet to find a PDa with significantly gbetter battery life that has Wi-fi and bluetooth.

My recommendation is the Axim x50v, another machine worth considering is the Fujistu-Siemens Loox 720, It lacks the Graphics accelerator the dell but includes an integrated camera. Hard to find a bespoke car kit for one though.

And lastly that VGA screen really should be a deciding factor, from general PIM to watching 2700g accelrated films it really makes using the machine a more pleasurable experience!

happy purchasing

aximsite should get commission from dell for every x50v sold, the info I found on here was the deciding factor in me buying a x50v, I cant wait for it to arrive, thanks everyone for the info.

I ordered the hx2755 from hpshopping.com with FREE delivery, it arrived in 2 days. The screen was the best of all the QVGA PPC, it was very fast, no slow down switching screens and the 128MB of RAM availability was very convenient, no more worrying about installing apps to ROM, SD or CF. I was planning to return my X50v because all the GPS program still running on QVGA but, when I found and tested Mapopolis beta version on VGA, I returned the iPaq instead. Plus, BetaPlayer and Resco Picture are awesome on VGA screen. But, I got to give a big hand to HP, their returning policy with instant refund process is top notch vs DELL sucky returning and refund system. DELL should spend some money on their ordering & returning system, it is the worst in the industry.
