Selecting Wi-Fi Network - 2 Avail

Last night I found why I occasionally have problems syncing with wi-fi... My neighbor also has a wireless network, and some of the time my axim hooks up to his network instead of mine.

How do you specify which network to connect to when it sees more than one? It doesn't ask.

I know I have had times where it asked, (in a shopping mall) but I don't think it has ever asked when I am at home. If it did, I don't remember and I guess I "Ok'd" both networks.

Selecting Settings on the Main page of the WLAN utility will take you to the Configure Wireless Networks page. Uncheck the "Automatically connect to non-preferred networks" box. Tap and hold on the enighbor's network and select "remove." If the network is the same name as yours, you should get into your router settings and change the SSID name on your network.

Also, you should be a good neighbor and go tell him that his WiFi network is totally unsecure. Most people just take their wireless routers out of the box, hook everything up, and don't ever change anything.

you could also use the odyssey client - with this you can tell it to only connect to a particular network.

And some of us do it on purpose to be good neighbors. :)

He knows it is unsecure.. I have told him that I can see it from here, but I didn't think about it being a "problem" with my syncing until last night.

I'll be moving at the end of the month. I hope my new neighbors are "good neighbors" and leave their networks unsecure. The rent at my new place is going to kill me! :)

change the channel from default on your router too...remember you'll get some bleed on the channels so if your neighbors channel is 6 you should select something above 8 or blow 4...
