Clearing Built in Storage - cant remove files

Hey gang.

I was trying to clean out the built in storage.
The folders->files that are still there after clean up are:

Cookies->index.dat
History->index.dat
Temp. Internet Files->index.dat

When trying to delete them i get the error message: Cannot delete file index.dat. Access denied.

Looks like it's locked. I have MemMAid and can enable the CF or SD temp file storage. Will that help?

I dont want to have anything in BiS at all, so a format would do - but I havent found a way to format it.

Any ideas?

Thanks in adavance

Try a soft reset and deleting them after that. Sound like you did a reg hack to get them there. Did you undo the hack yet? That should help if the soft reset doesn't work.

Thanks. Yes I had it hacked with MemMaid before. I have undone it - made it save files on CF card. Soft reset. Still cant clear BIS.

I don't understand why I don't get these problems.

Okay try this. Download the Resco File Explorer trial. Navigate to the files and hold your stylus down on it. Click on properties from the popup and uncheck archive. Then try to delete it.

Tried that too... Doesnt seem to work.

It's not a vital issue - there eseems to be only 2 megs taken up in BIS, so i can live with that... more of an annoyance then anything else, really.

Thanks for helping out. :)

I dont think you can delete the index.dat files. They are part of the OS. When trying to delete the index.dat file on a PC you can do it but you must log in as a different user. For example if my user name was MATT I would need to log off Matt and login as Admin or some other accout that has Admin rights. Then I would have to go to Docs and settings\username\ and find the index.dat and delete it.

Edit: also you cannot format BIS this is where the OS lives. all you can do is delete files.

Thanks! so the 3.9 (or so) MB are taken by the OS files and which are invisible? I have the "show hidden files" enabled in Rexco Explorer and only see the folders.files i described...

I see this is a very old thread; still, the solution to the index.dat problem is relocating the PIE cache BACK to the main memory.

(BTW, it's a VERY bad idea to put the PIE cache in the BIS - it'll become very slow.)
