I finally got it back up and running, apparantly it had frozen, the battery had drained itself, to the point where the backup battery was also drained, and corrupted the memory... I had to plug it in to the charger for a while, and reset it a few times to get it back to normal, and then load everything back in.
The reason I am worried about selling them, is because we are a Dell reseller, and we sell quite a bit of the Axim's, being a previous X5 owner, I never had as many problems as I have had with my new X50v.
My employee who has one also, is having constant issues with the wireless card not being recognized....
Some of my other employees have older X5's and X3's, but never have any major issues with them. We use a database program on them to track service calls/signature capture, etc, so they need to work reliably, or we have to find something that does.
Which brings me to another new issue, after getting everything back to normal after the crash the other night, I now cannot get the wifi to work at all on mine, it comes up as an unrec. card, and even a reset doesn't fix it...
Not being too familiar with the pocket pc/ce OS, I assume it uses some sort of drivers for the card, is there a way I can reload them??
I'm not too smart with these pocket PC's, but that's because they normally are something you sell to a client, and they don't have problems.... they just use them for basic outlook syncing for contacts, etc.
If it was a client/server OS I was dealing with, I wouldn't have any problems figuring it out.
Addressing the earlier replies, I actually didn't have anything running except our work order program, and a battery level program on the today screen... other than that I wasn't being a power user, I don't think, by any means...
It's interesting how a device designed to perform better than it's peer are being blamed for underperformance and become a "piece of crap"!
I think a device like the Axim X50v shouldn't be owned by any person who is unwilling to learn and do some trouble shootings as many softwares are not yet optimized for this version.

i have had no problems at all with my unit, not one memory, wifi, BT, or anything error, no screen problems, no freezing problems
i know some have, but i think thats because not all the people that have sucess come out and talk about it, but most who have problems do, so what you see is a higher ratio on sites of people having problems
Just did another hard reset, and still cannot get the wifi card to be recognized when I enable it... Do you think my A02 ROM update had a problem during the update, and corrupted something? Is there any way to re-install the drivers to make the wifi work?
I was looking at reflashing the ROM, however, it will not let you flash the same version again

I'm sorry if I sound overly simplistic here, but it sounds to me like you have a dud. I've had my Ax for over two months now, and nary a problem. Wifi works flawlessly, very few soft resets (now I know that I have to let PocketWeather load fully before I turn it off again ) and everything is peachy. (I'm still using AO1; if it ain't broke!)
Have you tried calling your Dell rep (with whom I'm sure you're friendly) and getting a replacement to try?

There are a couple of other threads on here where people say that they have noticed that the x50v does not react well with Today plugins loaded. My x50v worked great--and then I installed a today plugin. Suddenly my wireless card started acting up and I had to do a hard reset.
I think there is some software incompatibility going on somewhere.
My advice is to do another hard reset and to not load anything--see how your wireless works then. By the way I have been running the A02 update since day 1. It was the first thing I did.
I recently got a couple x50v's from dell thrown in with some large orders, and I used one myself, and gave one to one of my employees...
I've had nothing but problems with it. It has A02 rom.
First, the wireless card is finickie as heck, it will come up "unrecognized device" frequently. The wireless will report a driver problem and need a reset.
the unit freezes up constantly when you go to wake it, and have to do a reset.
Now after using it for a week, I go to turn it on , and it says "A memory error has been detected, press contacts to correct the error. If it does not boot, clear the data, blah blah"
What a piece of junk... is this typical????
I can't sell these things to my customers if they don't even work to use as a demo.... Yikes Dell!
You either got a bum unit or there is a bit of user error creeping in. I have had mine since mid-November and it is one of the best Pocket PC's I've ever had. They "unrecognized card" error with Wifi is a known issue that has been well documented. We had hoped that AO2 would fix the problem, but it did not. The memory error sounds like there isn't enough main memory to run apps. It may be that you have items on the main memory that are clogging up the device. It's harder to diagnose that one. HTC is the manufacturer and they are, BY FAR, the best. They did all the early iPAQ's as well as the 41xx, 19xx series. It doesn't get better than that.
Plus to get duel slots, built in Wifi and bluetooth and a VGA device for the price is unheard of. Give her another chance!
YES. It is a piece of crap. If you can get it up and running stable, it's pretty cool (the average joe would be absolutely lost). The glitchiest piece of machinery I have ever used. Temper mental, unstable, and the OS is absolute crap. I have a new error every day. 5 hard resets before I got it stable, and at least 1 soft reset per day. I think I've read just about every article on this site. I think I have become a WM2003SE professional in the record time of 2 weeks, thanks to the glitchiness of this piece of junk OS. Bluetooth is hit or miss. It works when it wants to.

The X50V has built-in wireless and needs no additional card.

You might also try one of the newer ROMs (I've had A05 for some time). If the memory is indeed bad, it'll continue to show up after a new dump. If not, all might be good.

Guys, this thread is almost 2 years old. FreakyFrank brought it back to life to complain about stuff that was fixed a while back. I've personally installed and uninstalled a ton of apps on my X50v over the past 18 months and in that time I've only needed to hardreset it twice - and that was about a year ago after I installed something I knew was bad but took a chance on anyway.
Soft resets - yes. but then - I reset my XP box every few weeks. My Unix servers on the other hand have been up over 6 months.

Thanks, bigbop. I guess I was in the holiday spirit and it's not Halloween, so I didn't see the troll.

Wow there seems to be a lot of necromancy going on recently....
