I recently got a couple x50v's from dell thrown in with some large orders, and I used one myself, and gave one to one of my employees...
I've had nothing but problems with it. It has A02 rom.
First, the wireless card is finickie as heck, it will come up "unrecognized device" frequently. The wireless will report a driver problem and need a reset.
the unit freezes up constantly when you go to wake it, and have to do a reset.
Now after using it for a week, I go to turn it on , and it says "A memory error has been detected, press contacts to correct the error. If it does not boot, clear the data, blah blah"
What a piece of junk... is this typical????
I can't sell these things to my customers if they don't even work to use as a demo.... Yikes Dell!
i think your problem is related to memory.... too many programs running in the background will locked-up your pocketpc (any pocketpc actually)
correct me if i'm wrong... pocketpc only supports 20 to 32 threads... at startup 5 to 10 threads already been filled.. so eventually you gonna used it up really fast if you are a fast clicker..
try installing PocketPlus or equivalent software which terminate a program (instead of minimize) whenever you clicked the X mark.
I agree with dwrath about memory being a factor. Be sure to properly close running programs, clear temp files (especially after surfing), and avoid installing/storing things in Main Memory. This type of problem you are experiencing is not unique to the X50 but occurs with all Pocket PCs.

Aside from the unrecognized wifi error, all this can easily be contributed to user error...
You do have to be at least as smart at the device or willing to ask for help rather than starting with "piece of crap". Gassius is right but send one to me because he shouldn't be burdened with 2 pieces of crap. It takes a rare person to whine about a free device without bothering to learn anything about it.
Personally, I'd rather you didn't sell any to your customers. At your patience and knowledge level, you would do them and us a great disservice.
Alternatively, take a little time to learn how to set up your device, get a good task killer and some decent applications, and enjoy a really nice gift.
Ball is in your court. Let me know if you need my shipping address. :approve:

cbunting--you don't deserve the negative comments in this thread. The main problem is that it's easy to junk up Windows Mobile. After trial and error with getting strange errors on my x50v I finally decided which aps weren't stable and which were. After a hard reset (rolls back to factory settings--wipes everything out) I got the config that I liked and then I did a 'backup.' I haven't had my device too long, but now it seems pretty stable. If I have any problems in the future, I'll just roll back to my stable config.
PPC OS is a different animal, and that's its weakness IMHO. I had a learning curve with my iPaq that seemed (to me) unexpectedly steep. I'd recommend that if you don't want to invest the time in the learning curve that you go ahead and sell the thing. Right now used x50v's ini good shape are going for some pretty high prices (like $375-$400). There was a guy in the classifieds who sold his x50v used with a spare battery for $350--he had to avoid a bidding war!
Life sucks doesn't it . This dude, who got it for free complains about it, while there are hundreds, if not thousands of paying customers in Europe who are waiting their asses off to get their PDA .
