The infamous BT/Wi-Fi bug CAN be fixed...quick fix that is!

As many of the owners of the x50v know, the issue with the the Bluetooth and Wifi bug is prevalent and can be frustrading. I sometimes get the "unrecognize network card" when trying to use WiFi. I also get the "insufficient memory" mssg when trying to activate Bluetooth. Unfortunately the A02 ROM update did not address this issue. I think the culprit lies in the Today plug-ins that we are using. Bluetooth and WiFi does NOT get along with some of Todays plugins such as Weather Panel, Spb Pocket Plus, Pocket Breeze. I have all of these three running on my Vee and i was unabe to activate BOTH Wifi and bluetooth at the same time. I think the Today plugins are using too much of the system's memory resource.

Here's what I did that enabled me to have both Wifi and bluetooth running at the same time without any problem. First I did a soft reset when I got either the "insufficient memory...." or the "unrecognize network card.." Then I disabled Pocket Plus by going into Start--->Settings---->Today items and UNCHECK Pocket Plus.

Then i soft reset again and tried to activate both bluetooth and Wifi but it did NOT work. So I went back to
Start---->Settings----->Today items and UNCHECK Weather Panel this time. I did another soft reset and turned on both bluetooth and wifi again. And what do you know...BOTH bluetooth and Wifi works simultaneously without a problem!!!!! BUT heres the interesting part, I went back into Settings----> Today items and reactivated Pocket Plus and Weather Panel. To my amazement, bluetooth AND Wifi were still running along with Pocket PLus and Weather Panel and PocketBreeze!!!

I turned off Wifi and Bluetooth off and on again and everything worked without a hitch! :approve: Now I have all my 3 plugins running along with Wifi AND bluetooth with NO problem! Talk about having your cake and eat it too... You guys might want to try it in the same order that I'd just described and see how it goes! Good luck!

I'll give this a shot...but I'd also like to know how long you went before making the conclusion that this fixed the problem. I can soft-reset and wi-fi will work and turn off a number of times, but the memory warning/driver warning comes back.

My solution is to install psshutxp, and to simply do a software soft-reset before turning on wi-fi. That method also has a 100% success rate.

Well i spoke too soon This is only a TEMPORARY solution. The problem resufaced again on my Vee! But i was able to have both wifi and bluetooth running again by repeating the steps in my intial post.

I think the psshutxp solution is several steps easier, although it may take 10 seconds for your PDA to completely reboot.

Huh? An extra program to soft reset? Why?

Anyway, I just don't get these problems... I guess I don't bog down the system with so many damn programs open at once... no way my x50v is magical....

Pared,

Do you own a Rhinoskin Aluminum case? There's no hole in the case to access the soft reset button.

You can simply put the program in your start menu, open it on the fly, and soft reset. It's actually a very useful application, especially with the X50 issues. By the time that you would pull out your stylus, take the X50 out of whatever case it is in (aluminum or leather), turn the X50 over, and press the reset button, with psshutxp, your device would nearly be booted again already.

In addition you can turn off the device, or just shut off the screen.

And it's free.

And, if you don't want to use it, there's an easy solution. Don't.

As for bogging down the X50, I don't do that. When I start wi-fi, there's usually nothing other than magic button (very low memory usage) running on my system, but the X50 memory leak still occasionally causes the memory error and can't find card error. I'd be willing to wager that this is true of most people who have also experienced this issue on a regular basis.

That would make sense then. You have to live with a poorly designed case and need software to make up for it's shortcomings. I can understand that.

Hey, free is for me. But personally, I only put MUST HAVE's in my RAM. (Hell, I even put it in, but only b/c the Mac skin goes great with my whole theme... :approve:

What memory leak are you talking about? 1st time I'm hearing of this... I keep close tabs on my memory as well... Are you sure you're not talking about the bloating of the OS, where some memory doesn't always get recovered? I've had THREE dif. devices all running WM2003 and I experienced these with them also...

But if not, please explain.

Aluminum succumbs to a drill bit.

Leather succumbs to a leather punch.

i think by now x50 users would have gotten used to the bt/wifi error and just do a ritualistic soft reset. most would have accepted it as a mere annoyance and its not a big deal anymore.

of cos, we can all hope that dell fixes this prob soon with another update, but i m not holding my breath waiting.

I use psshutxp (DisplaySwitch mapped to a button) as well... especially when using the axim as an MP3 player, or while sitting on the dock

the soft reset is also handly... specifically for enabling wlan
