Best Backup Method for my situation?

Hi,

I've just ordered the PocketPCTechs 128 MB upgrade for my x50v, and I'm wondering about the best way to recover what I have loaded after I get it back. I have Sprite back and will use it before the day is over to do a backup. And, then, of course, there is the ActiveSync backup, which I seldom used, but have just done so as to have a second recovery scheme for when I get my x50v.

Is one of these two methods a preferred one? Will I get a cleaner restore using one instead of the other or does it really matter?

Thanks in advance.

Sprite will definitely be the easier to Restore from....if you created a Self Extracting (.exe) BackUp.

You just store it on a CF or SD Card, stick this card in your Axim when you get it back, do the minimal Setup...only because you need to get to File Explorer....navigate to the backup.exe on your card, start it running and wait until it's finished.

Not much easier than that.

---Afterwards, try this---

HERE's how I have my Sprite Premium configured.

In my BIS I only have a most basic backup. Just enough to get my Axim back in a useable state, for me. If I were to have to use the OEM Configuration of the Axim......I would have to revert back to Complete Newbie Stage. I have no idea how to navigate in an OEM PPC Configuration.

My "Basic Configuration" contains User Info, SnoopSoft DashBoard (configured) and GigaBar (configured). These are the changes to the OEM Config that I have used on every PPC I've owned. Like I said, without them......I AM Lost! So I know I can always get back to something I can use, but since I rarely remove my SD Card, should I need to, I can always go back one or two days for a Restore.

And I copy my SD Card (via a card reader), to my PC and Laptop once a week.

Never had to use it yet, on my X5 400/A04. But just happy to know it's there if I need it.

Thank you MrKlaatu for a terrific response.

BTW, what does excluding Persistent Storage buy me?

Thanks again!

"De-select the items you do not need backed-up from the file tree when creating a backup. Also, make sure that you have checked the box in the backup options screen to exclude persistent storage, so that your storage cards are not included in the backup."

If you are backing up Persistent Storage, it will include both Built-in Storage and your SD/CF card.
