Neb Axim Newby to PDA's, What 1st?

I got my X50v today(THRILLED), it LOOKS AWESOME! It is smaller than I thought it would be, a good thing, I am a former laptop user and I am shocked they can get everything inside such a small package. Anyway, the batteries have been charging for 2 hours, now the light is green. I have downloaded many of "Sticky's Tweaks you need" in the last week. Should I start installing these things or play with the Axim for a few days to feel it out? I am a first time PDA user, so I don't want to screw anything up by updating the ROM, or adding a program I am not sure how it functions. I have also downloaded several games and demos.

Finally this is a pretty awesome site, and I appreciate all of your experiences and your sharing them to get us newbies up and running quickly. :approve:

As soon as my x50v comes and is fully charged, I'm going to install all of the programs that I've downloaded while waiting to recieve it (Like 20 programs + some games). I want to see how well it runs with so many things installed right away. That way, I don't have to worry about backing things up if I need to do a hard reset.

You should update the rom immediately and try out as many programs as you can. Better know about problems now than months later

Congrats CheapAxim!

I've had my X50v since early November and I had to do a hard reset on only one occasion. It was during my first week of ownership and I had downloaded and installed a bunch of trial versions of software. After that, I took things a little slower, adding software judiciously. Pretty boring approach, but I really don't want to do a lot of hard resets!

Yes I am pretty thrilled, just started it up, it is greater than my expectations. (celebrating)I think I will do as you say and take it judiciously. I will check my ROM and maybe update it. Couldn'
t help myself, the light is green so, I turned it on. Going to log off and check it out now. Thanx again, and I will check back later for more info, if any. :)

So, how do I know if my ROM needs updating? I have a brand new X50 as well.

DAY TWO! I am still thrilled. I loaded a bunch of games, until I got the not enough memory message. LOL, Deleted/Removed and then loaded most of them on the SD card after that. I figure I will play with it until Sunday(or hard reset), then get really serious about setting it up correctly. I have the old A01 ROM, so I will definately be updating that, and then Active Sync, and add the VGA Progs as well. I have a million Q's, but, I know they have probably already been answered here, so I will search them out and also read the manual again this weekend.

Anyway, coming from an old 8088, MSDOS user back in the 80's I like the fact that the software and GUI is simple and unbloated as compared to the notebooks/desktops and Windows version etc... I think I can get used to this thing pretty quickly. I haven't gotten around to setting up any networks or trying BT or WIFI yet, I will research that as well this W/E.

To Wannabees like I was, I can only say, the Axim X50v has far exceeded my expectations. This is my first PDA, so I can't necessarily say it is the best, since, I have never used any other, but, I am an old timer in the electronics world and I am way more than satisfied.

As for Dell. When I sent my order I noticed the "Game Bundle" wasn't included on my order. I searched the Dell forums about this and found that another customer had this same problem. I got on the support chat and sent a cordial email to support, and, I received the game bundle today. GOOD EXPERIENCE. Maybe a DELL plasma TV in my future? Who knows, I need to work this toy for a while first!

Anyway thanx again to all.
