On the laptop? No.
I just get three "Removable disks".
One is the CF, one is the SD, and the 3rd tells me to insert a disk when I click on it.
When I set it to 2 then I just get the two Removable disks.
The 'Set the number of drives' option is useless. I've also tried playing around with it to make my File Store visible - in vain. In general, it's pretty useless to modify its default value.
Regarding the registration problem, it is because you have installed it to BIS. If you install it to main memory, you can bring up the registration window.
Actually.... I installed it to BIS, un-installed it and then re-installed to main memory.
I noticed no change in file placement (the Softick folder remained in BIS and no new folder was created in Main memory) but the registration screen finally appeared that way.
The "Use Native receive routine" check box is for changing the file transfer protocol.
Checking it will slow down file transfers to the same speed used by ActiveSync.
Leave it unchecked and you'll approach the same transfer speed as a card reader.
Wouldn't it just be easier to not carry anything and use the device's 802.11b capabilities? (and, if you must, an 802.11b USB dongle, just in case where you're going doesn't have one).

That's my two cents...
good point there - but as i would understand (correct me if im wrong here), a WiFi USB dongle would require a native driver installation compared to a Mass Storage Driver...
also, the nice thing about cables is that there are small enough cables that allow you to ALSO charge your device. i have one, and it is as small as a fourth of my Axim, it allows me to charge, as well, as ActiveStink...

Ok now everyone, so if this works, aren't we just one step away from turning our Axim x50v into a wifi antenna for a laptop or pc that otherwise doesn't have one?
I, up to this point, have not seen any software that allows our laptop to browse the internet THROUGH the x50v. Not that I need use of this but someone once asked me that question. It would be cool to add one more feather into the cap of Pocket PC owners.

and this thread deserves to be a sticky. :approve:
I've 2 4GB CF card(for data file) and 1 SD card (for program file). But I was about to buy a 2gb USB drive mostly because of the convenience.
When I saw this software at Aximsite I mmediately downloaded it and ......
WOW.
I've just saved $250 (LEXAR MEDIA JDP2GB-231 2GB JumpDrive Lightning USB 2.0 Flash Drive)
I always carry my Axim with me and with it 1 SD card and 1 4GB CF card.
So.....I'm extremely happy
Thanks to all the people involved in making the "Aximsite" the very best website for ppc.

Well, I suppose you could connect to the internet with the axim and run Remote Display from Microsoft Power Toys to surf on your laptop through your Axim's PIE WiFi.

I just bought this program and installed it to main memory. This is a great program! I can now have my pda as a card reader also, how sweet is that ! It will be even better when you can access the BIS too.
I just notived that when set to card export and the Cf card is mounted on the PC it dissapeares from the Axim's list of devices. So anything looking for it no longer starts. This will be pretty good when it irons out the little bugs.
OK, I can see this is useful, but it doesn't exactly replace USB mass storage devices. The goal is to carry something small which can simply plug into any other computer and transfer files. At the moment I carry a small SD card reader (or a small USB key). If I want to replace these then I would need to carry a cable around with me everywhere, right?
Since carrying a cradle rather defeats the object of being portable, I would need to buy a travel cable. Admittedly these are very small, but the 'hassle factor' seems just as much as keeping a small card reader / key with me.

I don't think anyone would suggest buying a PDA as a replacement for a card reader. The point is that if you already have the PDA, you shouldn't need an additional doohickey to do this.
I still think this functionality should be built into the OS - perhaps WM5 will fix it. I would expect the built in file explorer to allow streaming of files either way between PDA and PC.
Oh, and you can add tabbed browsing to that list. MS have had, oh about forever, to get tabbed browsing into Internet Explorer and PIE, but they seem more interested in tying up DRM.

I would like to use the x50v as a card reader and be able to connect it to computers that do not have activesync on them for file transfer purpose.
my old palm has a utility called card export that could do that and I was wondering if its possible to do so in PPC.
