Anyone switch from Ipaq 4155 to X50v?

I love my Ipaq 4155, but I have to admit that VGA is calling my name. The HP 4700 seems unappealing mainly because of the touch pad. I am thinking of buying an X50v.

Reasons for me not to switch:
1) I really really love the small size and weight of my 4155.
2) I bought a folding keyboard, screen protector, extended battery, and several cases for my 4155.
3) I think my 4155 has a better battery life.
4) My 4155 is nearly completely bug free.
5) I can't find a folding keyboard for the X50v except for the Bluetooth one, and I don't like the idea of having to put batteries in a keyboard - I like how my keyboard powers off of the PDA.

Reasons for switching:
1) VGA!
2) Dell offering 30% off this weekend which in the educational store allows me to buy the X50v with hi-cap battery and 2-year warranty with Complete Care for $480 shipped.
3) Sena makes a nice case that accomodates the high-capacity battery.
4) My wife just gave me enough money to buy the X50v :)

What do you think? Anyone carry the dell with hi-cap battery in their front shirt pocket? Are those of you who switched from a 4155 happy? Does the faster processor keep the performance snappy even though it has to drive a VGA display?

Thanks for any comments. The sale ends after the weekend, so I need to make a decision.

I am also concerned that the Wifi range on the Axim may not be as good as I am used to.

To switch or not to switch; that is the question (William Shakespeare)

I too, was in your shoes. I had an Ipaq 2215 that I had for a year and a half and dearly loved. It did everything right, never gave me any problems and I hesitated to sell it. At my age though, I found that I needed a better screen in order to avoid eye strain (I'm 60 years old). I got a glimpse of an Ipaq VGA 4700 model at a mall, but like you, I wanted to avoid that touchpad business (and save money, too) so I sprung for an X50v and sold my 2215 on the internet. I haven't looked back since. The X50v is comparable in size to the 2215, and when in a Sena case I could tell much difference in size, weight or dimensions. It is quite pocketable, just as the 2215 was. Battey life is acceptable and I have a car charger at hand in the glove compartment; screen response is fine, just be sure and upgrade the ROM and be careful where you store programs.

Go for it. :approve:

I went from a 4155 to an X50v and don't regret it at all.

I've noticed no difference in WiFi range or Battery life (i had a spare battery with the 4150 as I do with the X50v, so battery life was never a real concern of mine)

Sometimes i miss the form factor, but I just turn on the "v", look at the screen and I'm happy again!

My wife went form the 2215 to the X50v, she is using the same covertec case for her X50v as she used for the 2215. I wouldn't recomend this to anyone though, as it is a bit of a squeeze, but they are very close to the same size.

If VGA is the main reason for you to switch, don't switch, you will be disappointed. I suggest wait out for WM 2005 devices.

which to get. I have a hp pc and I have been hard headed when it came to calling free 24hr support at hp. Thankfully I have been greatly pleased at the couple times I did decide to call. This was only because of finally being so frustrated and unable to solve the problem. I have less than 1yr exp knowing much of anything about computers. I will not be like that with a pda. I have a nokia 3650 phone/bluetooth able, and it can be used as a modem for a computer to use to link. I also saw some good prices at Dell, but was unsure of final cost. Does windows come with the v50 624mz graphic enhanced 64 ram? I plan on getting a 1gig upgrade for a small price, but windows might make it better for me to get a laptop or lesser model? I plan to use as media and a new toy, but could be practical for college assistance and novelty. I would have little problem carrying a phone and pda. Also do you need another internet account and bill for this. I have at.t wireless and mmode web acess on my phone. I also pay for comcast at home on my desktop? I can check with them for cost of using v50 axim to my account. If I used my cell phone as a modem could I stir clear of paying for another account? Or would you not suggest this and get a account just for a pda? thanks vansmack, all replies welcomed in buying decision.

I own both the X50v and the 4150 and I still think the HP is the best designed PDA ever. The form factor is incredible. For me, it wasn't an either or proposition. I got the Dell because I wanted to see if VGA is a great enhancement. While VGA is a significant improvement, I probably could live without it if I'm using it as a productivity tool. WM2003SE adds some nice things, it is not a essential upgrade. The HP will do everything that I need so I can not justify the Dell as a necessity. I would ask myself the reason why you choose to upgrade and if your current device will meet your needs. If you want to upgrade for the new features and the money is not to important, I'd say go with the Dell.

Up until the holiday season I had an OLD iPaq 3650 and an iPaq 3850. I actually used both since I had purchased them soon afer their release. Both worked excellent and I really never had any problems (with the exception of battery life on the 3650). In any case, I was looking for a lot more power, memory, etc. The Dell Axim x50v is an amazing PPC. I truly love the VGA screen and the power and flexibility of this decive far surpass my previous PPCs. Once I powered it up and played with it a bit, I never looked back... :)

If you are a power user. Unlike the 4155, which will work no matter what you throw at it..WiFi, BT, Today Plugins,....all at the sametime

The Axim X50v is extremely sensitive in this regards...Due to the VGA ressource hog and the "not-so-ready WM2003SE", Not all the stuffs will work well together. Read the all the sticky notes on this forums.

So prepare for tweaks, soft resets....

I went from a 4355 to the x50v. Talk about battery life! I don't think that the 4355 ever ran out of power. Its battery is bigger owing to the extra length from the un-detatchable thumbboard.

I have experienced some of the incompatible side of the x50v, and I've got to say that the iPaq was more stable. However, the x50v is not unstable. I find that I don't use the 3d capabilities of the graphics chip much--I'm not much of a gamer. The best thing is probably the clarity of the image when playing videos.

I've not been in a situation where the battery life was a big problem--I keep it on the charger most of the time.

All in all, I'm glad I made the move, but I can see how the 4155/4355 would be more attractive for some.
