slide show blank in Internet Explorer

I like to read the NY Times online. Often, they will have a slide show of a news event. But when I go to open it, my screen remains black. Do I need to have a certain program or application to be able to see it?

I believe they're either done in Java or Flash. If it's the former, you need a WM2003SE compatible virtual machine, and if it's the latter, you need Macromedia Flash Player for Pocket PC.

I'd check which it is but I don't have a subscription to the NY Times.

You don't need a paid subscription. go to www.nytimes.com. You just need to register with a username and password. It's great. I haven't paid to read the NY Times in years.
