The absolute FIRST thing to do is Remove the Main Battery. (having a rechargeable/non-removeable BUB is a negative point, in this situation).

Next, holding your device firmly, sling it in wide arcs (downward), alternating each of the four sides) to remove as much excess fluid from inside the device, as possible.

Then find some gentle, always-on heat source, such as your PC monitor or TV, something that is always on, but only feels warm. If it feels warm to you, than it's probably over 100°F ....plenty warm enough for the next step.

Find some way to prop your device vertically...--not horizontally (ie; Screen Up), (with the SD/CF Slots, or the "openest" opening UP), on your heat source. (bricks, books....anything that you can contrive to keep your device vertical FOR SEVERAL DAYS.

Then do just that....leave it there, fuggetaboutit, make believe you don't even own one of 'em.

After about 2 days, three's better....or more, depending on the severity of the liquid intrusion.....go look at it....don't touch it....just look at it. If you can still see any evidence of moisture.....leave it another couple'a days.

(you got mucho buxx invested here, whats a few days)?

After you see no evidence of moisture ---untouched--- pick it up and examine it closer. If all is clear, put the battery back in (hopefully recharged in the cradle during the wait), and give it a go. If it works....you're good-to-go.

If, after checking, you see evidence of moisture.....--or-- it doesn't work after putting the battery back in, give it a few more days.

If it's not working after more than a week............well, have you ever heard the term SOL??

Unless you have Complete Care, start looking for another Axim. There is a "Wetness Indicator" inside the device that will let them know if it's got wet or not, should you try to return it for "other" reasons.

If you DO have Complete Care....call Dell as soon as the "accident" happens......you'll have another Axim, PDQ.

Before any of this may happen. always remember to

'Wetness indicator'? I'm not so sure about that. Got any citations?

in my x30 its right at the top inside the battery compartment, it may be different on your x50 though. i would take a picture, but my brother has our digital camera, though we should be getting a new canon a510 sometime this week...

I would expect them to have all kinds of things that would tell them if you did anything that would void your warrenty.

Yeah, I ran my Motorola V505 through a full wash cycle about 3 months ago. When I popped the battery out I noticed that a formerly white sticker was now blood red. There goes the warranty.....

I took the battery out, opened it up as completely as I could and let it dry for a couple of days. It would power on and work okay but the ringer/speakerphone wouldn't work. So, I ordered a speaker kit off ebay and installed myself. Now, its good as new.

Moral of the story, don't despair just calmly follow the steps above the number one step being GET THE BATTERY OUT OF THE DEVICE FAST. The longer the shorting out battery stays in the device the more likely to fry it is.
