hi i tried installing it and when it runs, it keeps trying to connect to something and after that it hung the today screen. the realplayer bar blocks the top of the screen and i cannot get access to the start icon. anyone got that problem? how do we get it to run correctly? let me know what i'm doing wrong.
I have v1 and it is the same here, what it actually tries to open is an .html page linking to realnetworks media. Same tearing as well. Hasn't it improved at all ?
I have it, but not sure which version, and it works fine.

SunWon, do you mean there are some alternative ways to play rm/rmvb files on X50v?
Nope, I just don't bother with poor software, life is to short. For example as much as I miss AvantGo I don't use it anymore since version 5 because it isn't worth my time. Your mileage may vary.

I agree about Realplayer, but Avantgo works very well whether it's from PC link, wi-fi or GPRS. A great utility. Maybe you should give it another try?
I found it slow to move from page to page and slow to sync. Plus you can't even email them unless you are a subscriber to tell them there are problems. I don't expect free support but you would think they would want feedback.
I use Real One Player for Pocket PC Version: 2.0.0.28. (At least that’s what it says in ‘About’)
It had some problems with the interface, but it seems to play content adequately. I only really use it to play bbc radio.
Instead of installing it properly I found that it was one of the self contained apps that can run fine by copying the installation directory anywhere and recreating your shortcuts. So once you have installed it, after a hard reset you can still run it.
The only downside is that you have to open links or files from within the player. I just save the .ram files for the streams that I listen to.
If I were you, I’d BACKUP (hopefully you have one before the install), then hard reset and try running the real player from its folder and see if it still hangs. If not you can restore to the point before install and continue to run the player from its folder. If you don’t have a backup from before the install then copy the realplayer folder to your desktop and then uninstall realplayer and copy the folder back to the axim.

I think you should give it another go. I find it very zippy these days. You are right, a year or so ago, the server seemed very slow at times.

Do you just listen to the live BBC radio stations, or have you managed to use their 'listen again' service? I always get the 'listen using stand-alone realplayer' link for live stations, but it never shows up when I go to one of their recorded shows. The strange thing is that the stand-alone links are always shown when I use my desktop PC, but they don't appear in PIE (even when I use Tweaks2k2 to make PIE look like IE6). The even stranger thing is that the link is there in the HTML code in PIE, it just doesn't get displayed
It would be great to be able to lie in bed listening to some of the BBC's recent and classic comedy programs, but I just can't get it to work! RealPlayer will definitely play the streams: if I download the .ram file on my PC and type the rtsp:// link into the RealPlayer 'Open' dialogue, it loads up the stream and plays it perfectly well.

Steve.
I mainly use it for live stuff but I too get annoyed when they don't have the 'Listen using stand-alone Real Player' link. I don't even have it for a lot of the shows on my desktop.
Here's what you can do if you do get the 'Listen using stand-alone Real Player' option for the show that you want to listen to on the desktop but not on PIE.
Right-Click the 'Listen using stand-alone Real Player' link and then save the showname.ram to your desktop. All you need to do now is copy that over to your axim and open it via realplayer.
You should be able to do this with any of the shows that have the link. I just keep these *.ram files with me for the live stations too as you can just open up 5live direct without having to navigate to the site.
When you look at the link to files it may be possible to create your own. The comedy show ‘DeadRingers’ is at
rtsp://rmv8.bbc.net.uk/bbc7/0830_fri.ra you can just stick this in a text file and then rename that file whatever.ram and it should play fine.
Hope you can get hold of the shows that you want with one of these methods.
