right now we have a powerful pda with half of its capabilities not even available to use properly...wm 2005 is supposed to have vga support i heard, so for dell to not offer an upgrade to let customers use the device as its meant would be extremely disappointing

What is your source?? Without a reliable source, you are just spreading rumors and that is not helpful.

I'll sign. I'd actually be willing to slide some green across the table to Dell if they were to provide an upgrade path for this. Not a lot, but some.

It was from Dell. Before I purchased my Axim x50v (which I should recieve tomorrow) I asked about the WM2005 migration path and received that response in an email.

I guess someone who only has one post, posting something like that, would give the impression of spreading rumours.

I specifically asked that question instructing them that I would only purchase it if a migration path was going to be available. Otherwise I would wait until 2005 was released.

If they don't offer a migration path then I guess I will be getting a lot of free stuff from Dell since I will be threatining law suits.

If I do then I will have to post my personal information as well as my work information. Also posting the contact information of the dell worker is a big no no.

All the email states is that a migration path will be available.

c/p
There will be an upgrade path available for the x50V when 2005 becomes available.

Thank you
c/p

Anything else beyond that I cannot provide. I just posted that as I thought I was being helpful sharing the information I was given.

If it's going to cause a big uprising, I will delete my posts, no big deal.

No, no need to delete them. It's impossible to prove anyway.

I could pass this off as an email:

Hi Howard,

As discussed, I just wanted to confirm our conversation that you should not assume that there will be an upgrade from WM2003 SE to WM2005 (or whatever the next version of the OS is named). That decision will be made in due course depending on the software release date, product life cycle of the X50 and the consumer benefits that might be passed on.

Thanks for your support.

It wouldn't matter too much either way. However I would strongly recommend that you don't take that email that you have as gospel. ESPECIALLY if it came from someone within Dell's sales organization.

I will sign it. I paid good money for a top of the line PDA, and I expect an OS that makes use of it.

True, I take it with a grain of salt. I've been in the business long enough to know that until it's acutally shipping, you can make no promises. I've been caught a number of times by suppliers that promote a new product; and then weeks before its due to ship pull it from production and discontinue it.

It's my belief that if they made that statement in writing, there intent is to have a migration path, but who knows what might get in the way.

I gave in to temptation and bought my x50v with the hope that an upgrade will be available even if I have to purchase it. W/o the upgrade I could go back to X5 advanced, well nearly.

Personally, I want Dell to spend their resources quickly releasing a new WM2005 PDA (faster processor, more ram, better battery life, USB host, etc.) rather than getting an OS update for my x50v.

Ultimately I want this to be a laptop replacement, but as it stands, today's PDAs just can't cut it (yet). Don't get me wrong, I love my x50v, but this thing is going on ebay the moment a better PPC comes out.

Unfortunately, as PDA sales continue to slide, who knows if we'll see much new coming out. Right now everyone is focusing on smartphones, which are simply becoming digital camera replacements (rather than PDA replacements)!

i agree with most of you, but if 2005 magneto is anything like this windows 2003se then i am going to be disappointed.

i mean the people are Microsoft have to be idiots, really

after using the pocket internet explorer, i thought to myself is this a joke. Its horrrrrrrrrrrrible. it eats up memory like there is no tomorrow and also why the hell does it not have a forward button on its toolbar? and why cant you have the option of opening multiple windows?

and many more other things i can complain about too.
