The second this update path is confirmed - free or not - I'll be ordering an X50v. Hurry up Microsoft!

I think everyone here would love that - but they'll never do it.
Dell knows that we're gonna buy the new OS (a large number of us, anyway), so what's the point in giving it for free ?

Please the customers ? Bla.

Does dell give you free operating system upgrades for desktops? no.. I don't expect them to do the same for the X50v / 2k3se either.

I think Microsoft should offer a free OS update, or subsidise Dell so they are able to offer it for free!

No Dell does not give free upgrades for desktops, but I can go anhtime and buy a Windows license, put linux in or anything else. The actual problem here is choice, because as things are for now there is no choice, mainly due to the nature of the machine/OS. Maybe we shouldn't be saying so easily that we are willing to pay foran upgrade, for we are not given other alternatives apart from keeping the OS our x50 came with (which in my opinion undervalues the machine).

That's a great idea! Thanks for suggesting the site otherwise I would be lost. Now on to making the petition, any legal types who could suggest the best wording for such a petition? I simply want to ensure that we have one central petition that is properly worded in order to make our point the most effective it can be. I can see no harm in collecting signatures over the course of the next few months to build our case. Also would everyone be willing to pay for such an upgrade or should it be free?

Does anyone know the complete list of features to be offered with the new upgrade, what is new and exciting and what features have you the most excited?

Make this a sticky possibly? This way we can get as many people on this side of the forum to read and/or sign a petition if one is ever created.

Do you really think they read the forums to know whether we'll pay for the new OS or not ?
They know it, they have armies of marketing and data-mining guys who make models of us. And it's not very difficult: Dell Axim owners are often rather rich people who prefer to be up-to-date technologically, even if it costs them big bucks. Aren't you ? Else you wouldn't have an x50. I know I am

I would definately be up for an upgrade if they offer it and would definately sign a petition. That said, I wouldn't be heartbroken as my first PDA (Palm m130) suffered the same problem and I just go over it after a while. I can't imagine that they wouldn't put out an upgrade though as my friend with an X5 was able to upgrade to 2003 first edition. If they made that upgrade for the X5, i would have to imagine that they would do it for the X50.
