INTERKEY Program-----Is it Spyware?

I just ran McAfee AntiSpyware on my desktop and it found Interkey--a program with 6 components-----all .dll files. I have downloaded Betaplayer, and 2 trials versions of G-Prime & Mahjongg3d over the past few days. A Yahoo! search on Interkey spyware program turned this up:

InterKey and InterKey Portable utilities provide full Pocket PC data entry support: multilingual on-screen keyboards and multilingual input with Pocket PC portable keyboards.

Should I be concerned with this and DELETE it?

The McAfee site indicates that Interkey may indeed be Spyware and that it has a tendency to return (in the nature of all Spyware) after deletion.

However, this "discussion" in the McAfee threads was from last summer.

I'd delete it.

How recent is your Spyware protection?

Foundthis from Mcafee Help Forums. It looks like that trying to delete them can be useless since it can reappear again. If you want a another spyware removal tool, try Microsoft AntiSpyware, Adware, or even Spybot.

Or additionally, Spysweeper, which gives you one free download of the anti-virus image. Then you either need to upgrade or purchase a subscription.

I've been using a 4-prong attack to fight Spyware...I keep finding people whose computers are completely hacked, and they're nearly impossible to restore after they reach a certain point.

Step 1: Firefox instead of IE. There's just not the same penetration, although there certainly COULD be. I think a lot of hackers just have it out for Microsoft.

Step 2: Windows Antispyware (actually GIANT).

Step 3: Ad-aware (www.lavasoft.com)

Step 4: Spysweeper

I found that Spysweeper ALWAYS picked up more than Spybot (also free) and Ad-aware, but that ad-aware usually picks up some other "non-critical items". I'm not sure what Microsoft's Antispyware has ever accomplished, but it's there on my system doing its thing.

I should also add that ZoneAlarm as a firewall (free) is also a good decision.

Thanks a lot guys for the quick reply! Wow, it looks like a bunch of people are now having this problem in the McAfee forum. Seems like it is related to the last update that McAfee just had. I'll go ahead and delete it, but it looks like it will be coming back. Hopefully it is nothing serious. Kind of ironic that Interkey talks about Pocket PC stuff and that's what I'm dealing with on my Dell desktop with McAfee Security Suite. I'll contact McAfee and see what's up. Too bad I'll have to "chat" with them and they'll probably just say to reinstall everything just like everyone else's answer to computer problems! Thanks again guys. --Ski
