Messaging clearing inbox when connecting?
I have seen this mentioned a few times before with no resolution. Just wondering if anyone found out a fix.
With both my gmail, and now my comcast, when messaging connects to the server to check for new email, the inbox gets cleared. The messages just disappear, they don't even go to the deleted items folder.
Anybody have any ideas on how to fix this?
As a workaround, I have been deleting the messages and they stay untouched in the deleted items folder until I decide to clear them. Works, but kind of a pain, then I have to delete things twice when I don't want them. Any ideas out there???

ditto.
i think its jus pocket outlook that is the problem. which is ridiculous if u ask me....... anyways... its not free, but try webis mail 2.1....killer mail client and u wont have this problem. webis is a bit of a memory hog tho... but imho its worth it, and the worth the $$$.

I have noticed this happening with me....I'm not sure if its the exact same case with you, but it seems that Pocket Outlook syncs itself with whats currently on the POP server.
So for example if you downloaded your emails on your PC (which usually deletes them from the POP server), Pocket Outlook would automatically delete those emails as well since they are no longer on the server.

im not sure if this is what you guys are talking about - but when i used to connect - it would basically download all of the messages into outlook (whether it be on the pc or ppc) and then erase them from the server
there is a fix for this
open up outlook on your main pc and do the following:
- Tools --> Email Accounts --> View of Change Existing --> Select the Account you want to change --> Change --> More Settings --> Advanced --> And then make sure the box is checked next to "Leave a copy of messages on the server"
then just sync up your ppc and you should be all set - now when i download a message - it just marks it as "Read" - but then leaves an actual copy on the server itself...

i have gmail keep all email in the inbox, even tho i download it thru pop. thing is, and poutlook deletes them off my axim on the next time i check/download msgs. so maybe ur trick will work, but to the best of my knowledge they r already in my inbox... so i dunno how that would be different... anyways, i bought webis a couple weeks ago so im not gonna switch back, heh.

I'm having the same problem but I'm not syncing with Outlook. I'm using pocket outlook on its own so when it connects it gets the emails. If I delete the emails in pocket outlook, next time it connects it gets the same deleted e-mails back. They are being left on the server. is there a similar way as mentioned above to clear the server of down;oaded emails automatically?
Thanks

in your case - youll want to do the reverse (although you will have to sync with outlook once to get the message to your ppc)
basically - follow the same steps above but make sure the "leave copy of message in server" is not checked - then save that profile - sync with outlook - and then your ppc should just take the messages out of the inbox leaving them ONLY in the ppc outlook application
but remember - this ONLY leaves a copy in your ppc inbox - it will be deleted everywhere else...

I don't use Outlook. I use a direct POP3 connection from pocket outlook to the mail server. I checked the mail server settings and I can't turn it off there.

Try using the setting "get message headers only" tick "include" and set a size that will get most mail. I use 500k as I only want text - anything larger I'll check on my laptop. Hope this helps.

This hapened to me also, so I do this - I forward all my gmail emails to another account (Zen) then use the Zen account on my axim. This way I can get the headers and delete what i want download what i want as i know it is all on my PC when i get home :) Unless someone comes up with another solution I will stick to this method for now.

If you download message headers only and include x K of body, your future messages will not be deleted. You cannot download the messages that have already been deleted as a result of this issue, however. :(

I use nPopw which allows me to sync/read and delete messages directly from my POP account.
it's free and here: http://www.freewareppc.com/communication/npopw.shtml
it's a great program and the latest version ties in with your contacts.
i also have a version on a USB stick which i can plug into any computer to check and manage my email account!
This will solve your dilemma.

I tried looking up your link but I can't find it...
Also, along with the stupid deleting messages problem, I'm having another problem with the default messaging program where the screen doesn't refresh properly and so I can't see the messages, only what's behind the message window (other programs, desktop, etc). And this only happens when I use the external Axim button to start up the messaging program, but not if I click on a shortcut. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Any hints on how to correct it?
