If you state your successes in this thread, please give a list of the programs installed and running smoothly. I am trying to establish a trend of what is crashing it. If you know for sure an application that hang your X50v list it. I was having trouble with one application and after contacting the vendor I received proper files replacement and it is fine now. Maybe other programs have solutions too.

Mine runs great, and I have a ton of software on it. I've never hard reset, and I soft reset only because my memory usage slips a little after a while of using applications. Video is awesome, CF & SD cards work great, and all applications I load go to them without issue. Check out my View MyPDA for more on it. The only thing I have relly added was Spb Finance for Money. Loaded perfect on my Sd and sync's great.
I read all of the problems people have and wonder how I got so lucky. I use it everyday also.
I've had it running pretty well since the rom upgrade.
I had to hard reset on multiple occasions when I first got the axim. Most of this I attributed to testing demo software but I also had to hard reset to get pocket outlook functioning again and also to get my wifi reconnected.
I sorted the wifi by connecting with odyssey. I sorted the other problems by updating the rom and throwing spb pocket plus in the bin.
I have a lot of items installed; though anything that I can use without installation I just recreate shortcuts to after a hard reset. I have been surprised (and pleased) at how many apps will work this way.
I will soon be doing another hard reset and install and I'll post in this thread the apps that I know keep my axim nice and stable.
I think that it would also be a good idea to mention where they are installed if you would like to have the definitive safe list.
1-Save RAM
-Replace the Odysee Client in \Program Files
-Install Tweak2K2 to move share .DLL to Built in Storage
-Delete Ignore my file on storage card and create \My Documents to store the .tsk files
-Use Tweak2K2 (or Memmaid) to move IE cache to storage card
-Install pretty much all software in BIS (except Journalbar-Move cache to storage card-, Sync&Go)
-Avoid MS VOICE COMMAND (it is cool but this is the cause of many problems - due to memory constraint)
2-Essential Software add-on (with Today Plug-ins) - ALL IN BIS -
-PocketInformant
-PocketBreeze/ContactBreeze
-Wisbar Advance II
-iLauncher
-WeatherPanel
-HandyMenu

First off, SolSie, excellent tips on optimizing your memory! I had performed all of those except moving the .tsk files. That is an excellent tip, and I will try it soon for sure!
I had a pretty stable x50v going until it died on me the other night. I got the memory error, and my device never recovered. A replacement is on the way though thanks to Complete Care! :approve:
I had optimized my memory as SolSie suggested. To enhance my Today Screen I used a combination of SPB Pocket Plus, SPB Finance, Journal Bar, and Wisbar Adv. 2. They seemed to work pretty well together. I alternated between the "Blissful" Theme and Juni's OSX theme. I still can't decide which one I like better. SPB Finance was installed to BIS, and all other Today Screen enhancers were installed to Main Memory.
As far as other programs go, I ditched PockeMusic. I loved it, but it's battery drainage was terrbile compared to WMP. I also highly reccomend Resco Explorer, MemMaid, PocketMechanic, and Sprite Backup. They all worked really well with my device. ListPro is another piece of software that I've found I can't live without. I also use CommonTime mNotes to sync with LotusNotes at work.
When I get the new unit, here is how I plan to optimize it:
1. Immediately update to ROM A02 if it isn't already installed.
2. Next install all today plug-ins to Main Memory (SPB Pocket Plus, Journal Bar, Wisbar Adv. 2).
3. Install Resco Explorer, MemMaid, PocketMechanic, and Sprite Backup to BIS.
4. Optimize my memory settings as described in the previous post.
5. Next do a full system backup using Sprite.
6. Take my Axim to work, install mNotes, and sync all of my PIM.
7. Do another backup.
8. Install games to SD Card.
I hope this helps some of you out there that are having trouble with your device or are just getting your Axim!

You don't have to install Wisbar Adv in main memory, I install in BIS, it works perfectly - So you can store all the large Themes files in the generous BIS and not worry about taking precious RAM
I also created a directory on the storage card to store the WA adv themes and only move the chosen 1 to the BIS. In addition, delete the Merlin, Merlin VGA, only keep the Default WA themes in the Wisbar theme directory...

Thanks for the tip, I'll give it a try when the new Axim arrives!

Does WisBar II still lock up often? I tried it back in Dec/Jan when I got my Axim, but that darn program always locked up when navigating the pull down menus.
I think some people said it only locked up when you have WiFi on, but I just stopped using it and paying attention to it. I really liked the look of it, and would love to use it again if it seems to be stable.
Applications:
Spritesoft backup (run daily),Daily Reader by Laridian, Pocket Bible by Laridian, Pocket Informant (latest version), mNotes by Commontime (Lotus Notes sync), OnCourseNavigator4, GPSGate by Franson, VisualGPSCE, iGuidance navigation software, Vito Navigator II, PocketMap Navigator, SpaceDetective by Spritesoft , Microsoft Reader, eWallet, BetaViewer, CityTime, PhatNotes, PHM Device Manager, abcDB database, WordBook by Transcreative (Dictionary), WordPicker by Transcreative, PlanMaker, TextMaker, FreecellCE, Solitaire, Jawbreakers, vxUtil, CHMReader, PocketDiet, WiFiFoFum, Margi Presenter-to-go, Tweaks2K2, Pocket eSword, Resco PhotoViewer, SE-VGA, Eval 1.0 by Jonathan Sachs (calculator), MemMaid, OZ-VGA, ScreenCapture, PocketHackMaster, dotPocket, Drivers for SysonChipGPS with memory CF card, Leadtek GPS Monitor, Mapopolis (production and beta test versions), cabinstl.exe, Celeris Virtual Pool, Delorme XmapHH, Destinator3, Holux GPS Viewer, PocketFMS, RegEditCE, aardWolf WWPoints, Total Commander, iSilo, Haicom GPS Information, SprintDB Pro, Memorize! by Laridian, GSPDash, TeaTimer, X50Mix.exe, plus data files and configuration files to support them all.
I soft reset at least once daily, usually more often, just to clean up memory leaks. I've never hard reset except to update the ROM and when I test software that breaks (usually Alpha or early Beta versions). The suite I have listed all work together and don't lock up the X50 that a soft reset can't fix, and that only rarely. I sync to two PCs, one with Outlook and not Lotus Notes installed and one with Lotus Notes and not Outlook. The Axim is the pivot point that keeps Lotus Notes and Outlook synchronized. I use BT for GPS and Activsync, and I use WiFi for network access and Activesync/mNotes.
Most of you seem more motivated than me. I really haven't done much tweaking. I install programs on my SD card except programs that won't work there (such as the bluetooth executive keyboard) and those programs I install to the default location.
On the SD card I have some games (the ones that came with the axim, Arvale, Atlantis Redux, etc.), PlanMaker, TextMaker, Ant Flash Assist, Orionic, Pocket TV, and a few other programs. I do have a GPS for my X30 but will eventually get a bluetooth for my X50.
I probable don't use my Axim for as much as many of you - I do use it every day for internet access at home, light (very light) use of PlanMaker and TextMaker, calendar, alarm clock, etc.

I'm still tweaking, but one thing I've removed is Voice Command.
I constantly had an issue with Bluetooth not working, but since I removed it I have no issue starting and stopping it or Wifi.
Since I want to eventually hook it up to a bluetooth phone for getting email, I can live without it.
Maybe we could start a list of good progs and bad progs, especially ones that conflict with the bluetooth stack.
Here's my 2-cents. My Ax boots fast, runs fast, and is very stable with these guidelines.
Program Installation - I do not install any programs to Main Memory if at all possible (only Today plugins). BIS is slower memory so I only install some maintenance programs there. I use CabInstl to install all programs (except Today plug-ins) to a fast 1GB SD Card.
Backups - I create full backups at specific restore points. For example, factory install (hard reset) with device renamed, personal screen filled in, ActiveSync and WiFi configured. Another restore point when all my favorite apps are installed with authorization keys entered.
Maintenance - I use SKTools, Pocket Mechanic, and MemMaid for maintenance and cleanup with all the popular tweaks (e.g. IE and Avantgo cache to SD Card). This is important as the Registry can bloat with unreferenced and useless information.
Odyssey Client Replace – Create OdClientCE.exe text file with size of 0 and replace existing file in MM\Program Files\Funk Software\Odyssey Client to free up 2270KB in MM. Odyssey will still work since it also resides in \Windows.
NetFront3 – Installs JavaLite demos in MM\My Documents (JVLite2Demo, Micro3D) which can be deleted to free up lots of space in MM. Installs a Java component in MM\Program Files which appears you can safely delete. Also creates 5 additional Favorites which can be deleted.
Programs that insist on installing to MM - \PsShutXP, \Anton Tomov\Pocket Mechanic, \SBSH\iLauncher. They appear to misbehave if moved to BIS or SD Card. Is anyone sucessful at installing them to BIS or SD?
Programs that insist on installing to BIS - \Fathammer Stuntcar Extreme which can be safely moved to SD Card with updated shortcut.
