Bluetoothe Home Network?!?!?!?

My axim x50v is on the way and i have been reading the fourm for a while now and had a question. Can you set up a Home Bluetooth network like my 802.11G network. Is activesync faster on bluetooth or wireless. What would i need. I have 2 laptops and 3 desktops and 1 axim x50v Soon. the only bt device right now would be the ax but i am looking to add a to kb and mouse and a headset and a pair of headphones. i would like to use them on all of my computers as well as be able to send files and transfer stuff in my home via bluetooth if speed is close to 54mbs like wireless g.

On a side note anyone good with home networking or can recomend a good fourm cause i need to change my setup as it is no longer effecient.

TY all for your help :)

WiFi will be faster than Bluetooth. Also, the 30 foot range of BT makes it a bit impractical for a home network.

Bluetooth was designed more for wireless peripheral connection, and not data transfer.

Yes, its possible i had it done before i got my wireless router....Its reallly slow, 700kbps vs. 10mbps.... Just set up the bluetooth device, allow for connection in network, then connect in bluetooth manager....go to:

For what it's worth, I have a Wifi network at home and Bluetooth USB dongles on the PCs. I get a lot more then 30ft *if* with my class 1 BT dongles if there aren't walls in the way. But it's range definitly isn't like Wifi. However, I usually use the Bluetooth (Personal Networking) to cruise the net via one of the PC access points (as they are all over the place here). The speed difference while cruising Web average pages or checking simple e-mail is pretty negligable IMO. (Using BT Personal Area Networking that is, not using the "serial port" style BT Intenet connection which is slower). In any event, you're not going to pull 54mbps with an Ax over Wifi no matter what. :) I'm able to stream a 160kbps radio stream over BT and cruise pages, which is all I seem to care about most of the time. If I need more (like streaming a large video file from a server here) then I switch to Wifi.

So why do this with a Wifi network at home? For me it's all about the battery life. Just running BT on the x50v makes things last a lot longer WiFi in my experience. Plus sending high quality audio from the x50v to a stereo in the room over BT is a really neat trick. ;)

The BT USB dongles on the PC's provide a "High Quality Audio Headphones" service on the PC. (Basically makes the PC like a set of HP BT headphones) As part of the setup for that service on the PC you get to choose any sound output on the PC for where you want that BT audio piped. All the machines have mAudio cards that just hook to the stereo in that room via SPDIF. So when I connect with the x50v via the high quality profiles in the 1.5 Broadcom BT update, it plays through the PC to the stereo. :approve: How's that for a long answer.

This is the adaptor I'm using:

If you are looking for an all in one unit to hook to a stereo, this is the only one I know of (but I think it's pretty spendy):

Btw, The Axim is incapable of operating at 54mbps, its wireless function is a 802.11b, not 802.11g....This is ll vs 54/128mbps.....
I would just pick up a Belkin 54mbps router at Circuit for $10 after a MIR....I have one, and it works so good, the range is awesome, I could pick it up down the street, about 500ft away....Thats pretty good. I know people say it disconnects you, but ive never been disconnected. Its sooooo easy to setup... Once its installed, just type 192.168.2.1 to access the controls. Its a great buy....
