Just the basics please...

Howdy everyone! I'm a new axim owner as well. Just recieved my x50v on thursday. I could tell you a horror story with Dell wanting me to wait for a month and a half for delivery but I'm sure you have heard it all before :) Besides, when I got done I saved a bunch of money and ended up getting it in 3 days :)

Ok, so here I have a new toy, I know computers but am basically ignorant about the PPC world. I do know the basics on palms however. So far in my learning experiances I have hard reset 3 times while I get used to the system and learn which s/w bombs and which is a must. And there have been some good posts here as to what is VGA compliant and what is stable. However what I'm looking for is sorta like a max pc article where they list and describe the first 2 hours of stuff that anyone with a new pc needs to do immediatly. IE OS patchs, latest drivers, mandatory software, and of course backing a functional and up to date base system.

There are alot of nice programs out there to play with but I am looking for the *vital* apps that everyone must have. And I would rather have them, to all be the best quality freeware. I just dropped a bundle on the ax and the few items I could get to go with it. I'm not ready to do any S/W purchasing yet.

Suggestions?

Sorry, I must have missed something, I did not see any of the list with recomended or essential listed. I did see a few posts where people thought that would be a good idea but I don't think it got implemented.

Sorry. Apparently, some folks didn't like the editorial "essential/recommended" and they were removed. My bad!

The "stickies" indeed have the best software suggestions listed. They have been put together by the veterans here, so spend a lot of time perusing them.

What "you" will need personally depends entirely upon what you want to do with your Axim. In my opinion, the best apps are rarely freeware (with some exceptions such as Oz_VGA, BetaPlayer, Skype and WiFiFo).
