Backing up

I've had my x50v for around 2 months and have been backing up regularly to my 1G CF card. It dawned on ,e thst if that card goes bad while I am on the road, I am sunk. So, I backed up also to BIS. Is ther a problem with having 2 separate backups on the ax?

Not at all, but be aware that BIS can also fail. There have been lots of reports of it disappearing! Another way to keep your backup safe is to make a copy on your desktop as well.

Thanks. OK, now here's my next question. Now that I've backed up to BIS, I've taken up around 14 MB of BIS storage. I didn't back up my music, books, programs, etc. They are still on my CF card. But even though it says 14 MB of BIS is used, when I open up File Explorer and go to BIS, all of the folders are empty.

So, my question is, suppose I want to empty BIS to get my space back, for whatever reason. How do i do that?

If I've backed up everything on CF, and I then format BIS, and then restore from the CF, would all work as before?

In othef words, is there any hidden or essential data on the BIS that would not be restored from the CF card?

Theoretically, there is no need to backup the BIS since it is not touched by a hard reset. If you want to back it up, you will need to use Sprite Backup.

Personally, I copy the content of the BIS and my cards on my desktop every 15 days or so. But so far, I had no problem of them disappearing. If you have any problem, just copy your last backup over and voila.

Hey Theo....My big question is how do you delete data from the BIS, or from CF? I don't mean the files that show up in Explorer, but the stuff that is hidden such as the settings for WEP, email, contacts, etc. Is there a way to do this without reformatting the storage? And if you do reformat, what happens?

EVERYTHING is showing up in explorer (providing you specifically asked to show hidden files).
What you call "hidden" is in fact contained in databases, which are actual files on your \Windows folder.
To remove all of that, the best way is to do a hard reset. That won't delete your storage cards.

If you reformat any of the storage cards (including BIS), nothing specific happens, except that you can't access the files anymore

If you want any more in-depth information (but not too much) about memory, just go there (excellent help by Stoneraven)
