For those who want to try this but are unfamiliar with editing the registry, I would suggest RegKing, a free utility that helps with different hacks. Regardless of the way you edit your registry, don't forget to backup first. ;)

(Actually, I have never tried this with WM2003SE. Hopefully, it's still compatible.)

Erm, no it's not, 2^16 = 65536, besides an Intel xScale processor is 32bit.

My limit was already set to 32768. Is this the norm, or the exception?

I had forgotten about that tweak, actually I never tried it. I just applied it and the start menu now moves at light speed. :approve:

MemMaid will do the same thing under the "Memory Tweaks" section. Form there you can adjust the "Font Cache Size" to the 32768 (or 16384 8192)everyone is talking about. Might be a better option for people who don't like registry hacking. Not sure it made anything faster, but I wil leave it for a while. Thanks for the tips! :)

Stupid assumtion
I switch on the pocket pc, checked the ram size 24 mb. The battery was low so i put the ppc on the cradle (didn't check the ram size again). I then changed the settings as above and done soft reset while it was on the cradle. I checked the ram size again it was 21 mb (ppc on the cradle).
[ul]I assumed/[ul]
It used 3 mb of my precious Ram when i change the settings to 16384 to 32768 (when it was in the cradle). Acually the cradle it self used 3mb.

Conclusion
The tweek is fine and everything is a leeettle faster.

Don't do this unless you have a lot of free ram, what this tweak does is allocate more ram for fonts, by default 8mb is allocated. You are changing this to allow up to 32mb of font ram. I'd rather have more free ram than having programs load a little bit faster because all fonts are already in the ram, taking up space. Consider this before doing the tweak.

It was set to 8192 by default for this reason.

According to the MemMaid tweaks page, the unit for this setting is indeed Kbytes. How much of the allocated amount actually gets used probably depends on how many apps you run simultaneously, and the fonts used by each app. Bottom line is, if you're happy with this setting, use it! :approve:

Based on my very limited test, the answer is no. With the setting at 8192, I launched every significant application I have installed on my x30 and noted the amount of memory used. Then changed the setting to 32768, and did it again. I didn't see any big difference in memory usage. Application startup was noticeably faster, so I'm trying it out for awhile, to see what happens over time.
