Question Audible manager will not transfer to pda

Help, have downloaded audible manager to my laptop. when I attempt to transfer a book I get a message "Device specific error". All the selections prior to this error message work ok. the audible manager appears to be communicating with the X50V as it indicates card space.

There are quite a few problems like this in the audible help centre. Once of them was this:

Question
I get a Device Specific Error when I try and transfer a book to my storage card on my Pocket PC. How do I resolve this issue?
Answer
In order to resolve this situation, please try the following steps.

Make sure Audible Manager is closed, by going to File then Exit. Next, double click on the icon on your desktop called, My Computer. (note: XP user's will find this icon when the click on the Start button).

You will then find an icon that looks like an orange PDA called, Mobile Device. Double click on this icon. You find another Orange PDA icon called, My Pocket PC. Double click on this icon as well.

The new window that you are in, shows you all the folders and programs on your Pocket PC. Locate the storage card folder. In most cases, it's called SD card, storage card or just MMC. Double click to get into this folder. You will need to create an AudiblePlayer folder. To do this, right click anywhere in the folder. You will be given an option make a new folder. Choose to do so. Name the folder AudiblePlayer. Once this is done, close out of all windows.

Open Audible Manager and transfer to the storage card as before.
Another thing they mention is that you might have trouble through a USB hub.

If that doesn't fix it, go to audible.com and click on the help icon, then go to the "top 5 pda faq" button and search for "device specific error"

I had the same issue at first - I did finally get it to work though - A little patience and a lot of tries will get you there. I am sorry I can not specifically help you, but I did want you to know that it does work like a charm once you get it.

I've been with Audible for awhile, and have learned the following the hard way:

Most problems with Audible seem to require the same solution: Deactivate the devices and players, uninstall the software, remove all remnants (except content) of Audible from both the computer and the handheld, and start again. But with the Axim there's a twist, so read it all the way to the end, following these steps:

Synch the Axim.

Run Audible Manager on desktop. Choose Devices, Deactivate. Deactivate both the desktop player and the Axim.

Then, open ActiveSynch and choose Tools, Add/Remove programs. Highlight Audible, click Remove. You may have to manually delete some files from the handheld to complete the uninstall.

Then, close Audible Manager and uninstall Audible Manager from the desktop. Keep any existing audio files. Otherwise, uninstall everything.

For good measure, disconnect and reconnect USB connector to cradle. Restart computer.

Now do soft reset on Axim, synch again.

Go to audible.com/software and download Audible Manager (which will also install AudiblePlayer on the Axim). Here's the important part:

Even though it's a Pocket 2002/2003 device, choose the Ipaq 2002 and Pocket 2000(and earlier). It won't work any other way.

They say that they know they have problems with PocketPC devices, and are "looking into it".

One more thing I found - for some reason, I can't transfer format 1 audio to my X50v. Has to be format 2 or greater.

Not surprising. Audible has a great catalogue, but buggy software (I suppose we should be grateful that it works on our Axims at all). As for the question about which device to choose on installation: Trial and error will get you your answer (don't bother contacting Audible tech support, they don't know either). Once you get it to work, though, be sure to take notes -- you'll probably be needing to reinstall everything in a few months.

I don't believe the X50v supports format 4 either.
