Network folder access outside your home

OK, quite simply what I would like to do is access the shared folder files on my computer on my axim when I am away from my home network. I have resco explorer so it allows me to map the network to use in all my programs (for playing movies etc...). Is there a way to set this up? If it cannot work over the shared directory, is there a way to use the network folder function over an ftp? I'm not interested in streaming my media to window's mediaplayer, i'm interested in using my network folder to play music and movies in all the different progs. can anyone help me with that?

The easiest way, if you simply want to access shared folders, would indeed be to set up an FTP server, and ftp into your router's IP address. Something like ftp://111.111.11.1:21 should get you in once you have it set up. However, most broadband (cable/dsl) providers do prohibit hosting ftp and/or web servers.

On your router, you'd need to forward port 21 to the IP address of your designated ftp server.

There might be other third party services that you can use to accomplish, and you could also set up terminal services, or some other remote control software, but it doesn't sound like you need such a service.
