Memory slider

Ok..

the answer to my questions may be posted some place else but I haven't found them so here goes:

1) Each time I move the memory slider on my x50v to allocate more mem for programs rather than storage, the slider automatically resets itself and slides back to the middle (or there about). Is there something I am missing here in my steps so as to make sure it stays to where I want it set for memory to run programs?

and..........

2) Is there anyway to perm delete some of the today screen files (tsk) that come pre-installed on my Axim x50v? I have tried to delete some things I just don't use and it wont let me, inevitably it gives me the ole warning about not being able to do so.

Thanks as usual for any direction. Best wishes all. :)

The way that the OS handles memory really can't be changed much. it is very important to keep as much mem free as possible by installing programs to cards or bis. the slider has a mind of its own and will adjust as necessary to run programs.
As far as the built in programs, the are in the OS and can only be removed on a short term basis. That being said, you can create files with the same name as the ones you are trying to get rid of on your desktop using notepad or really any text editor and then copy them to the same place as the one you want to get rid of. However this may cause problems if you do that to something that actually is needed by some program. Then you would have to do a hard reset to restore them. and of course anything that you have changed with this method woudl also be restored at that time. Lots of people do this with the odyssey client program.

yes, I should have mentioned that I have replaced the ody. client with success using the method I read on the boards here, BUT, this method did not work for me in trying to replace other items.

Now...doesnt having a slider seem rather odd, if the OS is going to reset it, or manage mem on its own anyhow....

Try moving the slider towards storage, but leave about 7 mg free, that seems to work for me. If you go too far over, it will jump back to the middle.

It's because you're talking about two different things.
* ROM files are what ROM means, read-only. It includes the Windows directory, system files, etc. You can't in any way delete them, overwrite them, move them, rename them, etc. You can only read them
* The Odyssey program is NOT in ROM. It's a normal program installed exactly like you would install yours. BUT there's a setting in our Dell WM2003 that checks whether it's present or not whenever your system is started (soft-reseted). If it's not, it recreates it. That's why you can replace it with a 0-sized file, and it won't yell :approve:

Well, I find it's actually pretty good... Rather than throw you a big error message when ot needs to create a large temp file or put something big in RAM, it adjusts the slider, allowing itself to do so without interrupting your program.

What I find weird is that whole separation storage/RAM though
It comes from a time when storage cards or BIS didn't exist.

Windows Mobile 2005 will get rid of that, all your RAM will be real RAM, and you'll store files on BIS or cards.

Hope this helps.

it's sort of like an expanded version of WLAN that allows you to connect to networks that are using WAP and sometimes fixes problems connecting to WEP also. Most people who only connct to a simple wireless network don't have to use it but it can be very helpful when traveling or connecting to hotspots.

I have been doing this for the past 2 years. Until I found out that the OS manager the memory by it self . I found that out, when I was doing an address search in Mapopolis. The memory was going from 60% free to 0%, then back to 60% to 0%, etc. So I looked at the slider bar in action, and it will decrease the size of storage as needed. No need to play with the slider. :D
