Changing color of items in start menu

I put a new theme on my ppc and the main background is white. This is no problem for the today screen because the text is all in dark lettters, however, the start menu is not legible against the white background. Is it possible to change the color of the items listed in the Start menu? I have been looking and looking and can not find that option.....

Not without editing the registry AFAIK, which is dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. IMO Thememaker McDeb is the way to go (not MS theme generator).

To change the text use a registry editor and make your way to:

HKLM/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Color

See if the key "39" exists, if it does, you can change it to this:

00 00 00 00 = black
FF 00 00 00 = red
00 FF 00 00 = green
FF FF 00 00 = yellow
00 00 FF 00 = blue
FF 00 FF 00 = purple
FF FF FF 00 = White

If the key doesn't exist, create New Binary Value, name it 39 and use the above code for setting the color.

As geochem mentioned, registry editing can cause problems. As a precaution, do a backup before messing with it.

You could also try Tweaks2k2 it has an option for system colors
