Like with any wireless device there will be interference. I haven't gotten any yet. Sometimes there is a "hickup", but only when doing something processor intensive (although, I can still watch a 1.5GB movie file from my Microdrive with betaplayer and have the headphones on).
The problems are very rare. Maybe once every couple of weeks of use. The crackling that some describe are on lower end devices that don't have the processor power to encode the sound to 320kbps and send it to the headphones. My iPAQ h2215 had crackling, but my Axim X50v does not.

Kozak, I believe he was talking about the headphones cracking at the adjustable points. i have also read about this happening to people, and it put me off from buying a set myself.

Yeah, mine cracked after about 4 months. I called HP and they sent me a new pair and told me to just keep the old pair. So now I have 2. I just need to figure out what I can glue on it to keep it from breaking completely.

Hi..HP bluetooth headphones are in stock and available at CompuSmart.
They are $125.99 (CDN). I'm in Toronto and saw them in-stock at 2 downtown locations over the weekend.
(Hope I didn't break any forum rules by posting this info. If so..my apolgies.)
btw...if they have sold out of them since the weekend and your in the Toronto area, send me a PM.
Regards,
DT

Does it void the headphone warranty if you add the fix so that it works with the x50v?

No, there are no modifications made to the actual headphones. All changes are on the x50 side. Just install the upgraded bluetooth drivers and make a modification to the registry to enable the "next" and "back" buttons on the headphones (search the x50 forums to find more info.)

I called Compusmart in Vancouver, and they have 2 in stock :) . I also found it on www.ncix.com for $105 but it will take them 5-10 business days. But Compusmart is pricematching NCIX, so I'm getting it for $105 CAD :approve: Although, when I asked for their return policy, the sales guy said I cannot return this because it is a "personal" item????? I'm still planning on getting it but I hope I won't run into the problem of the headband cracking

Okay, I feel the torch of the flame licking at my heels. Just sharing my experience with regards to playback time for the x50v.
I set mine on Auto processor and use Betaplayer. I was on a 2 hour flight last week and had to stop using my crossword puzzle, because the power meter was visibly dropping and went below 30%. After my 2 hour flight, I had a little more than an hour layover and found a plug to recharge. My next flight was one hour and I used Betaplayer with the screen off...still on auto processor. The power dropped...obviously not as much.
This leads me to a couple of questions -
1. How accurate are the battery level meters?
2. If I switch from auto processor to "power saver" will it make a big difference?
3. Why is the energy efficiency of the X50v (even with the screen off) so much less than a dedicated MP3 player with a hard drive?
Put your bulls... torches back in their cases.

Dedicated MP3 players cache music to ram before playing it. They can read the songs faster then is required to play them, so they just cache them to fast ram then turn off the drive untill another cache is needed.

The XScale processor takes a relatively high amount of power even when not doing very much, also what ever storage you use for your music takes up power. Microdrives take around 250mA when reading/writing and NAND memory takes around 50mA. Sure its not as good battery life as a dedicated mp3 player but it is pretty cool as a mp3 player.

That’s good to know that the X50 sound is as good as the ipod! I don’t have the X50 yet but the sound on the X30 sucks. Hope to get an x50 real soon.

kc, sorry for whipping out the BS torch, but dude, if i was only getting an hour and a half from my ax i'd be worried that there might be a short or a bad battery. then again, i have no exp. with microdrives, and from what i hear their power consumption is something like 5 times that of flash. that could also be the drain. i've been using 1g cf and 1g sd.
again, sorry about calling BS, i was wickid tired.

Hey cnycompguy - no foul, no damage...or is it, no damage, no foul?
I'm gonna just start mine playing and see how long it last. Got a full charge and about 5 hours before bedtime (now, if I can just not play with it for the next 5 hours). :)

Well, I did my test and here are the results:
Set Up: Axim X50v with a fully charged battery attached to a pair of Yamaha powered speakers.
Music: 500 megs of MP3s stored on Kingston 1 gig CF
Player: BetaPlayer - Shuffle mode with the screen turned offer
Processor: Set to "Auto" - it set itself at 208 Mhz
Volume level: Approximately 40%
Battery: Standard
I let it play continously, only turning on the screen once every hour to check the battery level.
0 hours - battery at 100%
1 hour - battery at 87%
2 hours - battery at 74%
3 hours - battery at 57%
4 hours - battery at 33%
4 hours, 45 minutes - battery at 19% - Power button flashing ... got recharge now to avoid data loss message.
5 hours - battery at 17% - processor still shows 208 Mhz
I imagine if I pushed it, I could get another 30-45 minutes of play time. But for now - I gotta recharge.
So, forget my earlier post about the Axim x50v only getting 2 hours of playback time (I gotta stop drinking so early in the day).

I've read that a few people are using software that allows you to turn off the screen and control the music (forward, pause, etc). What software are you using and where can it be downloaded? Sorry I'm new; I just bought an x50v.
